2019 record: 12-7 (4-2 in conference)
Hofstra Pride are holding their collective heads up high after a very successful 2019 season. Head Coach Shannon Smith has been in charge of the team since July of 2012, and has seen the program consistently improve during her tenure. 2019 saw a new high watermark for her team, winning 12 games for the first time the Pride has reached that total since the 2010 season. After defeating Towson in the semis, the team bowed out to James Madison in the Colonial Conference tournament.
2019 saw a bevy of awards handed out to Hofstra players. None greater than Alyssa Parrella, the 2019 CAA player of the year. Parrella, a Miller Place native, was conference freshman of the year in 2017 and has only improved under Smith’s guidance. An All CAA player during each of her first three seasons at Hofstra, Parrella now ranks fifth all time in program history in goals and points (189 and 261 respectively) her 72 assists are fourth all time in the Hofstra record book. Parrella has been a star since day one, but going into her senior year she will not be alone. Fellow Long Islanders Alexa Matera and Darcie Smith will be alongside Parrella as Hofstra boasts one of the most talented group of midfielders in the country.
Hofstra has been on the precipice of greatness for a while, and the 2020 team may be the best one coach Smith has assembled. A strong group of underclassmen, mixed with a senior class that is hungrier than ever. The Hofstra players are gearing up for a special season. The season starts February 8th when the USC Trojans come to the Island. A high profile match up to get the season going, and hopefully validating all the good feelings for the Pride.
