Freshman Kate Timarky on Middle Country’s Success

Kate Timarky is simply one of Long Island’s best up and coming stars. As an 8th grader, The midfielder put together a tremendous campaign in 2019 by scoring 42 goals and 43 assists. Timarky also ended Top 5 in points and played a crucial role in many of the teams 2019 victories. Following the departures of Middle Country’s biggest stars in 2019, the sophomore is now arguably the centerpiece in the team’s offense. Timarky also takes on a major leadership role that will make a clear impact on the Mad Dogs success in the new season. The LILJ recently sat down with Timarky to discuss her journey as a lacrosse player and hopes for her future with the team:

Q: How did you get started playing lacrosse?

A: This is an easy one, I have two older sisters and I basically played every sport they played.

Q: Who has had the greatest impact on your sports career and why?

A: My dad because he coached me in soccer and lacrosse when I was very young and always taught me how to hustle and be a good teammate. He taught me to get over mistakes and move on to the next play.

Q: Your team went 16-3 in 2019. How do you and the team plan on keeping up this level of play in 2020?

A: I think one of the main things that made us go very far is how our whole team came to practice everyday willing to work as hard as we could, with lacrosse being our only focus. We also had positive attitudes and brought each other up when we got down. As long as we keep this mind set, I think we can continue to play at a high level.

Q: With that said, what is the goal for Middle Country next season?

A: I think we have two main goals this year, the first being to make sure we come together and bond as a team. The second one is not only to make playoffs. but to go far in playoffs.

Q: How does it feel presumably taking on a key leadership role?

A: If I am looked at as a leader next year, my main priority would be to encourage a strong work ethic. If my teammates see me working hard, hopefully it will impact our day to day efforts. I also hope I am the type of leader that my teams feel comfortable talking to on and off the field.

Q: List some of the strongest aspects of your Middle Country team.

A: Although most people think that a young team is a negative, I think it’s a positive. We will learn how to grow and play together. Our team is also very dedicated and we always strive to be the best.
