LILJ Interview with High Point University Commit: Jonathan Alfiero

As it pertains to lacrosse, Jonathan Alfiero has been playing it for a long time. He was introduced to the game at a very young age and has loved playing it ever since. Jonathan has become one of the top defenders on Long Island and this has made him a top recruit for the class of 2023. Playing defense requires a specific skill set and Jonathan loves to work on those skills during the games. “My game is more physical, and I like to get into the passing lane. I like to get into the attackman’s faces to force turnovers and make them uncomfortable at all times.”

Jonathan has been able to become one of these top defenders because of his head coach Larry Cerasi. Coach Cerasi has always been there for Jonathan and has made him a better lacrosse player and man.

“He is a great guy. I always see him and take the time to talk to him in the morning. He was very helpful for me during the recruitment process because on September 1st when I came to him with the schools that reached out to me, he would give me people to talk to, help me try to find the best fit, and see what the best school for me is.”

After looking at all the schools that reached out to Jonathan, he decided to commit to High Point University in North Carolina. He is excited to start this next chapter in his life and a big reason is because of head coach Jon Torpey and the rest of the coaching staff.

“It was not just coach Torpey. It was coach Broschart as well as coach Tuma. They are all great guys because they were constantly reaching out to me and my family. They were trying to help me in my situation by helping me make the best decision possible. They were always answering my questions, reaching out, just made it very comfortable because all of them are upfront, and they made my family feel great.”

With all the love he received from the coaches, it was an easy decision to attend High Point. He also loves the campus and that is going to make his college experience become the best four years of his life. He knows that a lot of other schools wanted him, but after considering all options, he knows he made a good decision to commit early.

“Taking the time to talk to every school that reached out and seeing what was the best fit for me was amazing. I just felt like High Point is that school because it is in a great area in the warm climate. They play tough teams within the conference and outside the conference, the academics are incredible, and the brotherhood is really special.”

Before heading to High Point, Alfiero has two years remaining at Northport. He will do everything possible to end on a high note and win a Long Island Championship. With the attitude and dedication he has to his teammates and the game, he will make a great impact on the High Point University community.
