No. 11 Ranked Sayville Lady Golden Flashes Team Preview

After a season in which Sayville won 12 games, they head into 2022 ranked number 11 in the LILJ preseason rankings. They appeared in the Suffolk Class C semifinals but were defeated by a single goal against Mt. Sinai. With a talented group of seniors returning, they are aiming to pick up where they left off and make another run at a Long Island Championship. Head Coach Adam Sznitken says he is excited about having this seniors play together one last time.

One of their seniors returning at attack is Bella Graziano (Flagler). She finished last season with 24 points, scoring 15 goals and dishing out nine assists. Graziano is joined by junior Taylor Hoss (ASU) who had an incredible sophomore season. She finished second on the team with 31 goals and was third in points with 44. Hoss is an electric scorer that is great at moving without the ball and creating space to get open for scoring opportunities. Senior Brigid Manning (Jacksonville) returns to the team as well. She can be seen as a Swiss Army knife that plays a little bit of everything. Manning plays midfield, defense, and is also a draw-specialist. Last season she scored 17 goals to go along with 5 assists. Overall this trio will account for the bulk of the offense now that the team is without 2021 graduates Brooke Hoss, Erin Schafer, and Meg McLaughlin. All three of them are currently playing D1 lacrosse with Hoss at Penn State, Schafer at Stanford, and McLaughlin at Army.

Defensively the team gets back senior Natasha Yajadda (UPenn) who will be the backbone of their defensive unit. Yajadda is tremendous at getting into the passing lanes to cause turnovers and clearing the ball. Senior goaltender Jess Harclerode (Saint Leo) will look to duplicate what she did in 2021 which was a save percentage over 50%. As a team Sayville only allowed double digit goals once in 15 games. They will have a great chance of being one Suffolk’s top defensive teams again this season.

Although Sayville is comprised of mostly veterans, Abby Galaris is a young gun that has the potential to get some minutes this season.

The schedule this year is filled with matchups against a lot of good teams in Suffolk. A few noteworthy games include home against Bayport (4/4), at Comsewogue (4/6), at West Babylon, and at Mt. Sinai (4/28).

Three of Sayville’s notable alumni who went on to play D1 lacrosse are Jasmine DePompeo (Navy), Kelly Marra (UMass), and Mackenzie Burns (Stony Brook).
