No. 6 Ranked Comsewogue Lady Warriors Team Preview

Landing at number six in the LILJ preseason rankings are the Comsewogue Lady Warriors. The program had a historic 2021 season that saw them win their first playoff game and appear in the Class B Semifinals. They defeated Rocky Point as the sixth seed before falling to West Babylon. This year they are surely a force to be reckoned with and have a legitimate chance to go all the way and win the Class B title. Comsewogue was also a participant in the LILJ High School Winter League where they hung tough against some great teams like St. Anthony’s and Bayport. Assistant Coach Kasey Mitchell says they have worked hard during the offseason and are looking forward to seeing it pay off in the spring.

“We are coming off of a season where we made Comsewogue history. Last year was the first playoff win Comsewogue Girls Lacrosse has ever had. This year, we are excited to continue to make history. Our girls have worked very hard all off season and we are anticipating seeing their efforts displayed on the field. We have a committed group of girls that is all in and wants to win.”

The team has a lot of returning players that will have an enormous impact on their success. One of their starting attackers is senior Mackenzie Beck (Cortland) who was their leading scorer with 32 goals. She is joined by senior Madison Schubert (Pace). Schubert added 15 points with nine goals last season. The team will also welcome back Mia Fernandes after she missed most of last season due to an injury. The midfield unit will consist of Alyssa Deacy (Florida), Gabby Constant, Shannon Harrington (Kennesaw), and Danielle McGuire. Deacy was good for 24 goals and 30 points last spring and had a great winter league where she was tops in points. Expect her to also spend a lot of time in the draw-circle. Constant and Harrington combined for 21 points last year. McGuire plays a combination of midfield and defense, contributing with five points in 2021 as a sophomore.

Comsewogue’s defense will be led by senior Jaidyn Donley (Stony Brook), and junior Lindsay Radmann (Pace). Although they are on the defensive end they both have the ability to score goals. Donley poured in six goals last season, and Radmann can play a combination of defense and attack. The goalie duties will be held by senior Gabby Tommaso. In the winter league she made 17 saves with a save percentage just under 50%.

Even though most of the team is back this year, two 2021 graduates that will be missed are Ava Fernandes and Claire Ronan. Fernenades had a great senior year with 19 goals and 11 assists. Ronan was a key member of the Warriors’ defense.

It has yet to be determined which young guns could see playing time this season, but coach Kasey says that they are expecting to call up a lot of young talent. Some of their young talent that saw a lot of playing time in the winter league were Jayla Callender, Kamryn McCrary, Vienna Guzman, and Mischa Fernandes.

This year Comsewogue will have a chance to show just how great they can be against some of the other top teams on the island. Here are some notable opponents on their schedule this season.
