The Suffolk Class B Championship is going to be decided in a battle of the Islip’s between West Islip and East Islip. In their semifinals matchups, they both won by 1 goal as underdogs. East Islip won in overtime 10-9 against Hauppauge off a goal from Charlie Heffernan and other great performances from Matthew McIntee, Ryan Parker, and Drew Walendowski contributed to their huge victory. Syracuse commit Matt McIntee is leading his team with 83 points but other offensive pieces such as Ryan Parker, Matthew Baldino, Charlie Heffernan, and Ethan Benardos, have stepped up and made plays throughout the season as well. LSM Charlie Kalinowski has played great all year and has led this East Islip defense.
West Islip upset Comsewogue 9-8 scoring the game tying goal with 20 seconds to go and then the game winning goal with 5 seconds remaining in the game. Cole Sparks had 1 goal and 4 assists on the day and Derek Busking, who scored the game winner, had 4 goals and 1 assist on the day. Evan Aponte had 2 goals and 1 assist and had the clutch game tying goal. Cameron Dorfman finished with an insane 15 saves and CJ Schwarz won 19 of 22 faceoffs. Cole Sparks is leading his team with 64 points and other offensive pieces not mentioned before that have played well throughout the season are Pat Keenan and Quinn Reilly. Some defensive players who have held it down for West Islip are Danny Klein, Kevin Cinotti, Brendan Obloj, and goalie Cameron Dorfman.
West Islip played East Islip on April 18th in their regular season matchup and West Islip won 14-6 in dominating fashion led by stellar performances by Cole Sparks, Derek Busking, Pat Keenan, and CJ Schwarz. But this East Islip team has been hot as of late and have been playing their best Lacrosse all season with a fast, explosive, smooth style of offensive and stout, lockdown defense at times, so we could potentially see this upcoming championship game being a lot closer than their previous regular season matchup.
