Game Preview: North Shore vs Manhasset Girls Nassau Class C Championship

The Nassau County Class C Girls Championship is taking place today, Thursday June 1st at Adelphi University at 7:30pm. The #1 seed North Shore Vikings (16-2) are facing the Manhasset Indians (8-6) and it’s bound to be a classic.

North Shore has had a dominant year winning 16 out of 18 of their total games played and are looking to keep their season alive with a championship win today. Their explosive offense is led by Boston College Commit Kylee Colbert who has an unreal 108 points on the season. She has been one of the top players on the island and will definitely be a player to watch in this one. Other players that have been solid for the Vikings on the offensive side of the ball are Ava Bartoli (Bryant Commit) who has 76 points and Daniela Martini (Haverford Commit) who has 55 points. Kaila Van Cott (University of Chicago Commit), Maya Best, and Elle Archer have also had their moments this season and stepped up in critical points to lift this Vikings squad. On the defensive side for the Vikings, they are led by Connecticut College commit Eliza Ritter who has played incredible defense this season. Goalie Ali Mele has been unbelievable this year with 147 saves and held Manhasset to only 4 goals in their first matchup!!

Manhasset has had a solid year winning 8 out of 14 of their total games played. It’s been an up and down year for them, but they are hot right now going into this championship game with comfortable playoff wins against Lynbrook and Wantagh. Manhasset’s smooth flowing offense is lead by USC commit Mia LoPinto who has 49 points on the season. She contributed immensely to their playoff run with 2 goals against Lynbrook and 6 points against Wantagh! Another top player for the Indians is Duke commit Caitlin Barrett who has 43 points on the season who has also been contributing to Manhasset’s playoff run and goal of bringing the Class C championship back to Manhasset. Manhasset also has sneaky offensive pieces that have stepped up and made plays and even lead their team in points some games in Holly Newman (Cornell Commit), Shea Panzik (Vanderbilt Commit), Taylor Gordon, Lauren Perfetto (Loyola Commit), Katelyn Greeley (Fairfield Commit), and Catherine Leder. On the defensive side of the ball, Manhasset has Virginia Commit Alexandra Schneider who’s one of, if not the best defender on the island who will look to lead this defense to lock it down against North Shore’s offensive firepower. Manhasset’s goalies Ruby Cacioppo (64 saves) and Hannah Rubin (23 saves) have stood tall between the pipes all year. Hannah Rubin even registered an assist this season!

In their regular season matchup, it was North Shore who took the win 8-4. Kylee Colbert was the difference maker in that one with her incredible 5 goal performance. Will the hot Manhasset Indians be able to flip the script this time around? Or will Kylee Colbert and the Vikings continue their dominance?
