FLG Lacrosse & Team Smithtown Partnership   FLG Lacrosse would like to offer year-round comprehensive training and coaching for the 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th grade Team Smithtown teams. Our approach will mirror the FLG Lacrosse methodology and will include organized curriculums, fast-paced training sessions, and a strict focus on developing every player in the Team Smithtown program.   Our program will give local Smithtown coaches an opportunity to work side-by-side with FLG’s trainers and coaches to educate them on creative training techniques, drills, and practice formats. The ultimate goal is to develop player’s in Smithtown to the best of their abilities, enhance lacrosse IQ amongst players & coaches, and to sustain a strong lacrosse culture within the Smithtown community.   What’s Included?   Pre-Season Coaches Discussion Location: FLG Lacrosse HQ, 345 Main Street in Huntington’s Village The FLG coaching staff will use this time to educate Smithtown youth coaches on the critical components needed to run a successful practice, as well as run through the curriculums for the year ahead. The FLG & Team Smithtown partnership will be broken up into three seasons: Fall, Winter, & Spring.   Fall Training: The Fall season will consist of 4 to 6 training sessions & 1 local tournament with 2 FLG Directors & 4 FLG coaches. These training sessions will cover the following areas:
  • Wallabies
  • Fundamentals
  • Positional Work
  • Skills
  • Team Concepts: Clearing, Team Offense, & Odd-Man Situations
  Winter Training: The Winter season will consist of 12 training sessions with 2 FLG Directors & 4 FLG coaches. These training session will cover the following areas:
  • Playing in Tight Spaces
  • Creative Play
  • Becoming Snively
  • Two-Man Games
  • Passing Variations: Lever, BTB, Shovel, Wristers, Twisters, and Leaners
      Spring Training: The Spring season will consist of 6 to 8 training sessions & 3 or 4 town tournaments with 2 FLG Directors & 4 FLG coaches. Spring training sessions will cover the following areas:
  • Team Offense: Base, Out of Bounds Plays, Invert, Big-Little
  • Team Defense: Base, Red vs. Green, Adjacent
  • Special Situations: Early Offense, Man-up, Man-Down, Substituting, Ride, Clear
  • Positional Work: Goalie, Face-off, Attack, Midfield, Defense
  Player Evaluations: To conclude the FLG & Team Smithtown partnership, each player on a Team Smithtown team will receive an email with a player evaluation. This evaluation will include ratings and steps to greatness in the following categories:
  • Skills
  • Athleticism
  • Lacrosse IQ / Team Concepts
  • Winning Individual Match-ups
  • Coachability
  Who’s Coaching Your Players?   The 2 FLG Directors that will lead the Team Smithtown groups will be Corey Winkoff & Devin Votta. Bios for both FLG Directors are at the bottom of this document. The 4 FLG Coaches are FLG Alumni and current Senior Varsity Lacrosse players in the Smithtown Community. Below are the 4 qualified candidates who will coach Team Smithtown: David Gonzalez, Matt Miller, Brandon Meir, & Andrew Arce.   Corey Winkoff University of Pennsylvania ‘11

  • 2012: JV Lacrosse Coach at Plainview JFK High School
  • 2008-2011: Four-year member of UPenn varsity lacrosse team
  • 2011: Team Captain, Second-team All-Ivy League
  • Helped lead UPenn to 2011 NCAA Tournament (First Round)
  • Finished career 2nd on Penn’s all-time assist list (95) and 10th all-time in points (135)
  • 2005-2007: Three-year letter winner at Cold Spring Harbor High School & Senior Captain of Varsity Men’s Lacrosse Team
  • Helped CSH to New York State C title in 2006 and Nassau County Class C Championship in 2007
  Devin Votta Siena College ‘17
  • 2014-present: Third year player for Siena varsity lacrosse program
  • 2015: Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Academic All-Conference Team
  • 2010-present: Coach at Levittown PAL
  • 2010-13: FLG Player
  • 2010-2013: Four-year starter and two-time captain for Division Avenue High School
  • Totaled 113 points and 204 groundballs during high school career
  • 2013: All-County Selection
  • 2015-present: FLG Lacrosse Coach
