It was feeding time for the ESM girls team on Wednesday, as the Sharks trounced the West Islip Lions 11-2 in an all-around masterpiece of a game for Eastport-South Manor.
Aidan Carlson and Giana Murphy got it started early for the Sharks, but a goal from West Islip’s leading scorer Gabrielle Nicolos had the Lions in striking distance. But the Sharks proved to be the stronger team, ripping off a seven goal run while smothering the Lion’s offensive attempts and holding them scoreless for nearly 30 minutes. By the time West Islip had figured it out, it was far too late.
Marissa Tancredi led the Sharks in scoring with four goals with Murphy (the leading scorer) not far behind with a hat trick, while Carlson and Katie McCormick had two goals each. Goalie Katie Vahle also had five saves. The Player of the Game for ESM, however, belongs to Celeste Forte. From two assists to two caused turnovers and three fouls drawn for free position attempts, Forte was doing it all for the Sharks all over the field.
As for the Lions, midfielder Maggie Davidson and goalie Maria Pellegrino gave great efforts throughout the game. Davidson was tasked with creating most of the offensive attempts for the Lions all night, while Pellegrino’s seven saves were the highlight of the Lions’ game.
West Islip will travel to Shoreham Wading River for their next game, while ESM will head to East Islip.
