Connetquot takes decisive 17-6 win over South Fork

In the First Round of the Suffolk County Class A Boys Lacrosse Playoffs, the Thunderbirds of Connetquot beat the South Fork Boys by a final score of 17-6. Bearing no resemblance to the 14-11 game played only two weeks ago, the T-Birds were every bit on fire today.

The South Fork jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage off a doorstep goal from 33 (cant find on website). However, that was the moment Connetquot’s Brian Zecchini’s goal led his team to take over as they embarked on a seven goal run spanning well into the second quarter with Tyler McCarthy getting a goal, Tyler Moore getting two goals and James Engly securing a first-half hat trick. But right after 3 (also not on site) ended the run, Moore got his hat trick to kick off as Engly racked up goal four and McCarthy grabbed his hat trick on a wild last second goal before the half ended.

With Cooper Brindle scoring the first goal of the second half for the South Fork, it appeared as though they might have found the momentum they needed. That was quickly ended by Engly’s fifth goal of the game. From there, the two teams would exchange goals (Zac Mobius and Charlie Corwin of South Fork, and McCarthy’s fourth for Connetquot) until the Thunderbirds pulled away with four more fourth quarter goals.

With all the offense meant lots of saves for the goalies, and Micheal Monahan/Nick Rizzuto of Connetquot put up a respectable 6 saves while Hudson Brindle of South Fork stopped 13 shots while facing a higher number of shots.

The trio of Engly, Moore and McCarthy led the Thunderbirds in scoring on the day with five and two sets of four goals respectively, proving the team is ready and willing to make a lot of noise offensively in the playoffs as they move on to face Smithtown West next. Meanwhile, South Fork managed an incredible 10-6 record after compiling schools together to have a season and should be proud of what they were able to accomplish.
