No. 7 Ranked Westhampton Beach Hurricanes Team Preview

Coming in at number seven in the LILJ top 26 preseason rankings are the Hurricanes of Westhampton Beach. Last year was another season of contention, winning 13 games in the regular season and appearing in the playoffs with a trip to the county semifinals. The team comes in with confidence, experience, and unfinished business as the program returns to Class B for the first time since 2022. Led by longtime head coach Mary Bergmann in her 13th season, the Hurricanes bring back a strong core of high-level talent, including multiple Division I commits, while also welcoming impact newcomers who could raise the team’s ceiling even further.

The heart of Westhampton’s lineup is an experienced and dynamic senior class. Ava Derby (Maryland) remains the centerpiece after posting 50 points last spring while controlling play between the lines, and she’s joined by fellow Division I commits Maiya Boughal (Dartmouth), who finished with 43 points, Tierney McEntee (LIU) and Caeden Dorn (LIU). In goal, Mia Brown (Maryland) returns after gaining valuable varsity experience, and will be the anchor of the defense as the full-time starter. Two of their returning upperclassmen defenders playing in front of Brown include seniors Dagny Beasley (Williams) and Ava Failla (Drexel). Eighth grader Kenzie Klammer made an immediate impact in 2025 as a young midfielder with 28 points, while junior Reagan Schindler (Coastal Carolina) adds versatility and toughness on both ends of the field.

Westhampton does graduate several key contributors from 2025, most notably All-American Reese King, who was a dominant force with 90 points, along with All-American Maya Farnan, who anchored the cage with over 110 saves, and Lily Graves, a reliable two-way midfielder. Replacing that production will be a challenge, but the Hurricanes have depth and talent ready to step into expanded roles.

Two players poised for increased responsibility are freshman Summer O’Neill on the defensive end and sophomore Mia Mastropierro, who already showed her offensive potential with 19 points as an underclassman. The addition of transfer Henley Tutill from Mattituck, combined with a strong group of varsity hopefuls, gives Westhampton flexibility and competition throughout the program.

This winter Westhampton was a participant in the LILJ winter league as they gear up for the season. With a solid returning core, elite lacrosse IQ, and a renewed opportunity in a different playoff landscape, Westhampton enters 2026 focused on balanced team play and adaptability. If the Hurricanes blend their veteran leadership with emerging contributors, they’ll be well-positioned to make a serious run in their first year back in Class B. The season opener for the Hurricanes is a non-league matchup against Manhasset on 3/21 before they begin league play on 3/26 against Rocky Point.
