No. 24 Ranked Comsewogue Spartans Team Preview

Not many eyeballs have seen more lacrosse than the eyes belonging to Pete Mitchell, his 27 years of head coaching experience can nearly confirm that. A mentor who’s coached dozens of All-American selections and has won numerous Suffolk County, Long Island, and New York State championships throughout his storied career, might know a thing or two about what it takes to reach those pinnacles. A rugged 5-13 season record in 2025 was the lowest mark for a Mitchell-coached team in over a decade, and they still found themselves a game away from a County championship appearance. A bit of a program identifier in itself, as the Spartans have refused to quit on their coach since his inaugural season in 1999. With only two graduating seniors from last season, Comsewogue’s arsenal is loaded again, and that could be frightening news to their counterparts in Class B.

The Spartans have a wealth of returning production on the offensive side of the ball, bringing back senior attackmen Luca Lattanzio (Queens) who scored 35 goals with 23 assists and Gianni Marino (LIU) with 20 goals and 10 assists, while senior midfielders Hunter Marquardt (Pace) who added 30 goals with 10 assists and Anthony Marino (LIU) 21 goals along with 16 assists also return to lead their starting line. An offense consisting of mostly juniors and seniors should take a bit of the load off Mitchell’s plate. Experience and talent were the ingredients to the programs’ back to back County championships in 2021 and 2022, and it appears this team has as stocked of a kitchen as they’ve had in recent years.  And in case that wasn’t enough, junior midfielder Kristian Rodriguez is back at Comsewogue after transferring from St. Anthony’s. He’s expected to be an added boost through the midfield immediately, giving the Spartans another lethal weapon. “[We have] depth and experience, only [having] graduated two seniors, everyone else has been starting for at least two years, three years,” said Mitchell to LILJ.  There isn’t a drought of returning starters on the defense, either. Comsewogue’s unit is led by senior defenseman Connor Rocchio and junior long stick midfielder Logan McCaffrey. Both are Division I commits heading to Marist, and should help new senior goalkeeper Dylan O’Connor get comfortable in between the pipes in his first year as the starter. Comsewogue also brings back seniors Nick Saladino (Oneonta), Jack Pacifico (Farmingdale), and Jack Campagne (Oneonta) who’re expected to step right back into their earned roles. When asked about the keys to a successful season, Coach Mitchell said he believes he has all the right chess pieces to win, but it boils down to effort. “Team chemistry, hard work and managing a very deep roster. [This is] the deepest we have been in years.” Comsewogue opens up their 2026 season on March 25th as they travel to Rocky Point to take on the Eagles.
