No. 19 Ranked Huntington Blue Devils Team Preview

It’s been just over 10 years since Huntington Boy’s lacrosse made the switch from Suffolk Class B to Class A, taking a major leap into a highly competitive division. The Blue Devils have proved that they can swim with the big fish since making the transition, consistently finding themselves in the thick of the postseason picture. Ninth year Head Coach Julian Watts has frequently had his team in the championship mix since he took over the program, leading his team to at least 12 wins in each of the last five seasons. His 2025 squad finished the year with a notable 14-4 record with a defeat to Northport in the Suffolk County semifinals. Watts has unquestionably sustained the program’s winning culture since his arrival, but now he’s trying to establish a championship one. Though Huntington graduated quite a chunk of last year’s production, the team’s recent track record suggests they can be right back in the playoff mix by the time May rolls around – their primary focus entering the season.

There’s no other way around it, losing 233 combined points from the 2025 team is a hefty amount of offense to replace. The program watched Tim McDonald (40 G, 24 A), Colin Lennon (38 G, 24 A), Luca Cuozzo (41 G, 17 A), and Tommy Kline (29 G, 23 A) all depart from the team in a single offseason, leaving quite a gap for Watts to reconstruct in his offense. Leading the returning unit for the Blue Devils is senior attackman Jack Kamenstein (Geneseo) after a stellar junior year. Kamenstein will be asked to carry a bit more of the load this time around with the help of some new cast members making their way to the scene. That support staff will feature the likes of senior midfielders Frankie Algieri and Christian Luca, junior midfielders Colby Curran and Brendan McNulty, and senior attackman Ryan Divico, a group that’s more than capable of carrying the torch for the Bulls this year.  It’s a bit of a similar story on the other side of the field for Huntington, with last year’s starting goaltender and leader of the defense Will Fallon also no longer with the team due to aging out. Senior goalie Alvin Luna is the lone returner from last year while this winter in the LILJ Winter League they added freshman Chris Rado and senior Blake Bender. Returning defenseman, sophomore Patrick Hassett, is the lone starter from last year’s team that’s back for another season. A heavy responsibility of leading the defense awaits the two year varsity member, but any true competitor welcomes those challenges. Coach Watts believes the chip on his team’s shoulder is bigger than ever, and that determination could translate to a lot of tallies in the win column again this season. A lot of these guys feel like they have something to prove, and I’m excited to watch them compete with that edge and hunger,” Watts stated to LILJ. “We’re going to surprise some people this season,” he continued. The anticipation for this young group to hit the field continues to rise. Huntington kicks off the 2026 regular season hosting Farmingdale on March 21st for an opening match up against the Dalers before beginning league play on March 26th when travel to Ward Melville to face the Patriots.
