The boys from Port Washington come in at number 13 in the LILJ top 26 preseason rankings as they enter the 2026 season with a new voice leading the team as Dan Gill has been named the next head coach of the program. Gill previously served as an assistant coach at Massapequa and at Adelphi winning championships at both destinations, and now will look to help bring one to the Port Washington community. Last season saw the team win a total of 15 games with just four losses and went toe-to-toe with the eventual county champion Massapequa Chiefs in the county championship game. After averaging more than 11 goals per game in 2025, the Vikings will look to reload around a strong junior core and one of the top flight goalies on Long Island, giving them an excellent chance to contend for a their first county championship since 2022.
The Class of 2025 leaves behind significant production, led by midfielder Tommy McCarvill (45 goals, 19 assists – 64 points), one of the team’s top offensive catalysts. Attackers Will Ahmuty (43 points) and Brendan Lang (33 points) were consistent finishers, while Liam McCarvill (18 points) and Christian Sarchese (11 goals) added depth. Defensively, seniors Harrison Behan, Evan Friedman-Ogino, Nick Noga, and Jimmy Rather provided toughness and experience. Replacing that senior leadership and scoring punch will be the first challenge this spring.
The good news for Port Washington is the amount of high-level production returning from the Class of 2026 and 2027. On attack, junior standout Harry Eynon who struck for 58 points returns after a breakout season that established him as one of the most dynamic scorers in the conference, while Dylan Buckley (Cortland) and Jimmy Gannon (Merrimack) give the midfield athleticism and versatility. Fellow juniors Owen Meyer at midfield and Ty Noga at attack provide additional depth and upside.
In goal, the Vikings are in outstanding shape with junior Ohio State commit Max Eynon back between the pipes after a stellar 2025 campaign that saw him post 188 saves and a 70.1% save percentage. His presence gives Port Washington a proven backbone on the defensive end and the ability to steal a few games. At the face-off X, Dylan Freeman (Merrimack) was very stout last year with a 62.8% win rate and will once again give them an excellent chance to win a high rate of face-offs to control the tempo.
With proven scoring, additional playmakers poised for elevated roles, elite goaltending, and a solid face-off unit, Port Washington has the pieces to once again be one of the top teams in Nassau Class A in 2026. If the new leaders can replace the graduated production and the defense continues to develop around its experienced goalie, the Vikings once again have the potential to be hoisting some hardware this spring. The season opener for the Vikings takes place on March 19th when they travel to Sayville to take on the Golden Flashes in a non-league matchup.
