At No. 13 in the LILJ preseason rankings is the Port Washington Vikings. It’s year one for newly named Head Coach Dan Gill, who’s serving a lead position for the first time in his career after making assistant coaching pit stops at Massapequa and Division II Adelphi. The Chiefs won the 2019 State championship when Gill was on the staff, and a few years later he won the National Championship with the Panthers in 2025. His richness of high level experience and his ability to develop young talent should bode well for the proud Nassau County program that’s coming off a gut-wrenching loss to his former Massapequa team in the County final. A 15-4 season doesn’t satisfy the Vikings program that prides themselves on hardware, and under Coach Gill they will aim for an even higher ceiling in 2026.
The Vikings offense loses a bit of ammo from last season, as Tommy McCarvill, Will Ahmuty, and Brendan Lang all graduated. They do bring back stud junior attackman Harry Eynon (39 G, 13 A) who will be the kick start on the scoring attack. Senior midfielder Jacob Apat will be asked to carry a bigger chunk of the load as the most experienced player at his position. Massapequa, Farmingdale, and Syosset all have maintained reputable defensive units over the years, giving this offense quite a hurdle if they want to reclaim their throne in Nassau County Class A.
Port Washington does have some other notable returnees, including junior faceoff man Dylan Freeman and junior goalie Max Eynon, who both should provide a sense of stability on the back end. Eynon, the Ohio State commit, is the backbone for Port Washington and could be in for an All American-level season. The Viking defense only allowed an impressive five goals per game in 2025, a mark that’ll be tough to replicate but can be attainable through Coach Gill’s tutelage. Defense wins championships in the game of lacrosse, and in order for Port Washington to reach their aspirations, they need to get the rest of that inexperienced group up to speed.
Playing in a loaded Class A division, Port Washington’s schedule won’t be lacking top notch competition, with their first test slated on March 19th at Sayville.
