On the morning of December 10th, the Stony Brook University Indoor Complex featured a matchup in the JV division between YJ Duswalt and Ward Melville JV.

The game started with Ward Melville holding a slim 3-1 lead in the first half, until they were able to strike 3 more times in the final 5 minutes to total, 6 first half goals to YJ Duswalt’s one.

Ward Melville used that late first half momentum to continue their strong performance in the second half, scoring an additional 5 goals. YJ Duswalt improved their offense with 4 goals in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

Ward Melville’s standout players included the eighth grader Maeve Feldmann and the freshman Giavanna Parente, each contributing 3 goals to their team’s victory. Freshman Emily Webber was a ground ball machine for the Patriots, coming away with a game-high 4 ground balls, and sophomore Hadley Torre also added 2 ground balls as well as 2 caused turnovers.

For YJ Duswalt, Elle Sipress made a notable impact, scoring 3 goals while also adding 2 ground balls. Defensively it was Ava Fitzgibbon who was a standout as she secured 3 ground balls to go along 2 takeaways. Once again in the net Amelia Grausso held her own against the elder Patriots, finishing with 5 saves and a save percentage of 50%.

Coming up on Thursday YJ Duswalt will have back-to-back games as they will face YJ Friedman at 5:45pm, and the St. Anthony’s 2027 team at 6:30pm.
