Getting started with the top 25 preseason rankings in Long Island high school boys lacrosse it’s the Port Washington Vikings coming in at number 25. This season the Vikings have a new coach at the helm with Glenn Lavey stepping into his first season as head coach of the team after most recently coaching at Harborfields winning back to back county championships in 2018 and 2019. Port Washington was just 4-12 last year but did appear in the Nassau Class A Semifinals where their season came to an end against the Dalers. The team returns many of their key players from last season and they will look to turn some of the close defeats into victories this year as they aim to compete for a deep run in Class A.

Starting with the Port Washington offense, the team returns seniors Will Ahmuty, Liam McCarvill and Brendan Lange (Muhlenberg) at attack, a trio that combined for 69 points last season. Leading the midfield will be senior Tommy McCarvill who is tops in points on the team among their returning midfielders with 22 in 2024. At the face-off X looking to get the ball to their offense is going to be junior Griffin Marvin, winning 105 face-offs as a sophomore. Overall the Vikings offense averaged slightly over seven goals per game, a number that they will hope increases this season.

Looking at the defense heading into the season, they welcome back senior defenseman Nick Noga (Maritime), senior LSM Jimmy Rather, junior defenseman Oren Shashoua and sophomore defenseman Gavin Neville. In goal as the starter looks to be sophomore Max Eynon who saw most of the time in the cage where he made 95 saves with a save percentage of 52.5%. Also on the roster is junior goalie Gus Sciortino. The Vikings defense as a team allowed nine goals per game in 2024.

The first game of the season for Port Washington is on March 24th in a non-league contest against Islip, followed by two more non-league games against Sayville and Harborfields before playing their first league game in the power conference against Wantagh on April 4th.
