No. 17 Ranked Mt. Sinai Mustangs Team Preview

At number 17 in the LILJ top 25 preseason rankings it’s the Mt. Sinai Mustangs of Suffolk Class C. Last year was a seven win season which was good enough to qualify for the playoffs where they were narrowly defeated in the opening round against Westhampton. This year they have most their team in tact where they’ll be competing in arguably the toughest conference for another spot in the playoffs. During the offseason the Mustangs were a participant in the LILJ HSWL to help them gear up for the spring.

Offensively for the Mustangs it starts with the number one overall recruit in the 2025 class Alexa Spallina the All-American Clemson bound attacker. Spallina who is a force multiplier on the field had another dominant junior year with 38 goals and 47 assists for 85 points. The 85 points was tied for the fourth most in all of Suffolk County and the 47 assists was the second most in the county. They also return junior Sophia Masone (Georgetown) playing both attack and midfield who scored 31 goals as a sophomore, and senior midfielder Kyla Orlando (Clemson) who added 26 goals to the offense. Some of their returning players that have a chance to have breakout years are senior Ava Clark (LIU), and juniors Lila Callahan (Hofstra) and Emily Romeo (Stony Brook). One young gun to look out for that will soon be a household name in the program is eighth grader Lainie Friedman at attack who saw the field with the varsity team this winter scoring three goals with two assists.

Defensively the team returns defenders Ava Clark (Pitt) and Madison Cuccinello in the senior class and juniors Liliana Graziano and Talyn Summer in the junior class. In goal the Mustangs have sophomore goalie Kathryn Arrington and senior goalie Addison Beall who each saw time in the cage last year with 40 saves from Arrington and 19 from Beale.

Mt. Sinai will open up with their first regular season league game on April 1st against Miller Place.
