Climbing the ladder in the LILJ top 25 preseason rankings the Huntington Blue Devils come in at number 17. They enter the 2025 season having won 13 games last year with just 5 losses and a playoff win with a trip to the semifinals in Suffolk Class A. Huntington is coached by Head Coach Julian Watts who is in his eighth season at the helm and he gave his thoughts on what excites him going into the season. “The fact that we have 19 seniors on the roster, I think we can play physical with that many upperclassmen.” This offseason Huntington took part in the LILJ HSWL to gear up in preparation for the spring.
Offensively Huntington was tied for the third most goals per game in Suffolk County last year at 12.2, and they return a plethora of offensive weapons which includes Colin Lennon (Siena), Tommy Kline (Loyola), and Timmy McDonald (Siena). This trio combined for 138 points a season ago with 51 from Lennon, 48 from Kline, and 39 from McDonald. Between this collection of talent and at the face-off X Luca Cuozzo (UMass) getting the ball to their offense, expect Huntington to have a high flying offense once again this year. The offense also returns Thomas Smith (Vassar) who recorded 14 points last season. The team will be without 2024 graduates Thomas Girimonti, Dan McNulty and Brian Hrybenko which will mean others will have to make up for their absence.
Defensively one of their key returning long poles is Parker Wands (Lenoir-Rhyne) who this winter was second on the team in caused turnovers and third in ground balls, and in the cage will be Will Fallon in his second straight year as the starting goalie. Fallon racked up 167 saves last season which was among the top 15 across Suffolk County, with a save percentage north of 50%. As a team the Blue Devils defense gave up eight goals per game in 2024.
With the start of the new season right on the horizon, coach Watts shared what some of the keys to a successful season will be for the Blue Devils.
“Stay healthy, executive at a high level, NEVER over look any opponents. Be the best conditioned, hardest working and most professional team out there. Most importantly, be a good teammate!”
The regular season opener for Huntington will be on March 29th in a non-league matchup against Farmingdale in what could be a Long Island Championship preview, followed by their first league game on April 3rd against rival Northport.
