In Suffolk Class C coming in at number 13 in the LILJ top 25 preseason rankings are the Shoreham-Wading River Wildcats. After an 8-8 season in 2024 which was not enough to qualify for the playoffs, this year they’re looking for a bounce back year and a playoff appearance for the third time in four years. Head Coach Alex Fehmel is now in her fourth year coaching the team and she shared the excitement surrounding the team this year as they look for a different outcome this season. “I’m excited about our team mentality going into the 2025 season. Every returner is extremely bought in. We were uphappy with the outcome of last season and we are ready to prove that we have a lot more to give.”
The Wildcats have an abundance of returning players including upperclassmen in the junior and senior class as well as sophomores that already have varsity experience. On the offensive side of the field they return senior attackers Reese Marcario, Grayce Kitchen (Louisville) and Charlotte Erb (Coastal Carolina). Marcario returns as their leader in points from last year, coming off of a dominant junior year with 37 goals as well as 44 assists for 81 points. The 44 assists was good for the fourth most across all of Suffolk County. Kitchen added 30 goals with 11 assists for 41 points while Erb contributed with 20 goals and 12 assists for 32 points. Also returning this season at attack coming off of injury is Anabel Keegan (Towson). At midfield in the senior class they return Haylie Abrams (Colorado), and Morgan Lesiewicz (Lehigh), junior Kady Keegan (Binghamton) and in the sophomore class one of the premier players and top recruits Madison Herr who already enters year three of varsity and exploded for 51 points as a freshman with 36 goals and 15 assists.
Defensively the Wildcats will be without 2024 graduates Madison Pieloch and Tiana Barone, but do return junior Fairfield commit Leslie Jablonski. In goal as the starter will be sophomore Sophia Giangreco who is now in year two as a starter and recorded 114 saves as a freshman.
Some of their other sophomores that will be names to look out for in the program that are entering year two of varsity are Maeve Bourguignon and Stamatia Almiroudis at midfield and Maddie Rizzi on defense.
With the start of the season just around the corner, coach Fehmel shared what some of the keys to success will be in 2025.
“Our keys to success go along with the team believing in one another and trusting in everyone’s ability to get the job done. Working hard, playing together, and having fun is the key.”
The season opener for the Wildcats is a non-league matchup on March 29th against Massapequa, followed by their first league game against Eastport-South Manor on April 1st.
