The Rocky Point Eagles of Suffolk Class C come in at number 11 in the LILJ top 25 preseason rankings. This team has no shortage of talent and is part of what makes up a such a deep conference. At the helm is Kaitlyn Montalbano who is now entering her second season with the team. Last season they went 14-4 overall with a playoff appearance and a trip to the semifinals where they were narrowly defeated by Bayport. This year they have a number of returning players and will be looking to take another step forward come playoff time. During the offseason Rocky Point was once again a participant in the LILJ HSWL to help them get ready for the spring season.
On the offensive side of the field Rocky Point returns senior midfielders Kylie Lamoureux the future Maryland Terp and Fiona Vu the Brown commit. Last season Lamoureux scored 37 goals with 11 assists and Vu scored 24 goals along with 9 assists. At attack they return junior Kaleigh Moeller (FSU) and sophomore Cadence Adamo, each coming off of big seasons last year with 26 goals and 15 assists from Moeller and 20 goals and 11 assists from Adamo. In the winter league the trio of Moeller, Adamo and Lamoureux were their top three leading scorers. The big absence to this year’s team on offense is McKenzie Moeller at attack and Anna Wood at midfield who were each part of the 2024 graduating class. Rocky Point’s offense averaged over 10 goals per game which is a number that they would love to replicate this season.
Defensively they return upperclassmen in senior Violet Freebody (Slippery Rock), junior Lillian Wood (Saint Leo) who can also play midfield, and junior Megan Curtin (Mercy). In the sophomore class their returning defenders include Teagan Trentowski and Jenna Giorlando and in the freshman class Sage Ciolino. The goaltending is as good as it gets with senior Breezy Henke (UMass) as the starter who tallied 105 saves last season with a save percentage over 50%.
Coach Montalbano expressed excitement with having so many returning players and looking to build on the foundation that has been put in place.
“It’s exciting to have 9 starting players returning this season. We’re looking forward to building on the foundation and team chemistry we’ve established. Also, it will be exciting to watch our seniors take on leadership roles to help guide the younger players and set a strong example for the rest of the team.”
The season opener for Rocky Point is on March 26th in a non-league matchup against William Floyd, followed by their first league game on April 1st against Mattituck.
