Getting to number 6 in the LILJ top 25 preseason rankings its the Cold Spring Harbor Seahawks. They enter the new season as the reigning New York State Champions of Class D, going 17-4 on their way to the title and this year they will be going for the repeat. Danielle Castellane enters her 19th season as head coach and the team returns the majority of their players from last year giving them a great chance to make it back-to-back. During the winter Cold Spring Harbor took part in the LILJ High School Winter League in preparation for what they hope will be another long season.

Engineering the Seahawks offense is the senior Maryland commit Ryan Reynolds, coming off of a huge junior year with 50 goals and 21 assists for 71 points. The 71 points were good for top 20 in all of Nassau County last season. Maggie Spehr the senior Middlebury commit adds to what made them such an explosive offense last year as she recorded 72 points which was top 15 in the county with 53 goals and 19 assists. Their returning upperclassmen include seniors Kelly Callaghan (UChicago), Ruby Speilberger and Sienna Koke. In the sophomore class is lefty Olivia Mulada who had a breakout freshman year with 21 goals and 20 assists for 41 points and will only continue to elevate her contributions to the program. Also look out for sophomores Bridget Willcocks and Lyla Long to potentially have an impact this season. The big absence from this year’s offense is Amelia Bentley who had an All-American season last year and was part of the 2024 graduating class.

The Seahawks defense returns a number of veteran upperclassmen which include Rachel Louie (Rochester), Mackenzie McGraw, Michelle Coles, and Zoe Soskin, and in the cage for her fifth and final year as the starting goalie is senior Florida commit Maya Soskin the two-time All American. As a junior Soskin was otherworldly in the cage with a 157 saves which was the most of any goalie in Nassau County. As a team their defense allowed fewer than seven goals per game last year.

Coach Csastellane shared her excitement about her returning players for the season and what some of the keys to another successful year will be.

“I’m excited about the blending of our young guns with this strong senior group and the shot clock!!! Our keys will be strong senior leadership, balanced offensive unit – returning four senior defenders along with two-time All-American goalkeeper Maya Soskin.”

The title defense for Cold Spring Harbor officially begins with their first regular season game on March 31st in a power conference matchup against Port Washington.
