No. 21 Ranked North Shore Lady Vikings Team Preview

Heading into the 2022 season North Shore is ranked 21 in the LILJ preseason rankings. Head Coach Meg McCormack guided them to a 6-8 record and another appearance in the postseason. After losing in the first round against Lynbrook 15-14,  North Shore aims to get right back into the playoffs and make a deeper run. The team has a talented group of returning players that will look to have a big 2022 season. Coach McCormack expressed her excitement surrounding the team this upcoming season.

“We are looking forward to a great year back out on the field playing a full regular season including our non-league schedules. Seeing the passion, drive and motivation the girls bring everyday excites us as a team. Their positive and relentless energy is what drives making everyday successful.”

Among some of their key players who are returning are All-County midfielder Kylee Colbert (Boston College), and midfielder Kate Gilliam (Harvard). Colbert was the team leader in points last season with 53, and Gilliam was third on the team with 23 points. Attackers Ava Bartoli, Elle Archer, and Daniela Martini are also returning and will play a pivotal role in the team’s offensive success. On the defensive side they will be led by Maya Best, Hannah Gilliam, and Eliza Ritter. The Vikings also have a couple young guns in Alexandra Basile and Isabelle Sheridan who may have an opportunity to see minutes on the field this season.

Although most of the team remains intact, the presence of Casey Colbert will certainly be missed on the offensive side of the field. She accounted for 47 points last season which was good for second most on the team and was big in the draw circle. Colbert is now a member of the Stony Brook Seawolves lacrosse team. The team also lost Francesca Corozzo who was the leader of the defensive unit.

Over the years North Shore has seen plenty of talented players that have rolled through their lacrosse program. Some of those notable alumni that wore the Vikings uniform include Amanda Johansen, Carlee Janelli, Quinn Lacy, Alana Greene, April Rowell, Caitlin Colbert, Andrea Liotta, and Emma FitzPatrick.

This year there are plenty of notable games that are on North Shore’s schedule against some of the top teams in Nassau County. They have home games against Wantagh (3/28), Manhasset (4/4), Syosset (4/9), Garden City (4/25), and South Side (5/5). They also play at Massapequa (4/13).

Coach McCormack shared what it will take to make this a successful season for the Vikings.

“The keys to success for this season is to have poise, confidence, tenacity, grit and trust in one another to connect and get the job done every day! This is a fun team and we are looking forward to the 2022 season!”
