Wantagh Warriors Players Spotlight Featuring Madison Taylor, Maddie Alaimo and Eva Ingrilli

The Wantagh Lady Warriors are appearing Nassau Class C County Finals for the second consecutive year. They defeated South Side last week in the semifinals to clinch a county final berth and they are now one win away from appearing in the Long Island Championship. They have been led by senior midfielder Madison Taylor and junior attackers Maddie Alaimo and Eva Ingrilli. These three have helped take Wantagh to new heights the last few years where they have been a legit contender in Nassau County and one of the best teams on the island.

They all grew up playing lacrosse at young age. Alaimo and Ingrilli grew up playing together both in the community and also for the club team Long Island Top Guns. Ingrilli shared how playing together for so long has brought them close together.

“We’ve been playing together since second grade. We’ve been on Top Guns every single year together and honestly we’ve gotten so close over it and built such a good friendship.”

Taylor’s passion for lacrosse also began at a young age and she initially started playing the sport because of her mom who was into the game. Taylor expressed how she didn’t like the game at the very beginning, but she loves it now.

“My mom was into lacrosse and she kind of got me into it. At first honestly I didn’t like it because I didn’t like to wear the equipment but then I got over that hump.”

Taylor also played for Top Guns as well, in the class of 2022.

All three have come together and are among the top players in their respective classes, and have had tremendous success as individuals which has also translated to the team having a lot of success. This season Taylor reached major milestones, by recording her 300th draw as well as her 200th point. Alaimo and Ingrilli also reached milestones this year, recording their 100th point. Taylor will be heading to Northwestern after this season, and Alaimo and Ingrilli have another year with the Warriors before Alaimo heads to Virginia, and Ingrilli goes to UNC.

The time that they have spent on the field together has helped them over the years  develop a lot of chemistry to the point where they know each others moves. The mindset that they all have playing for top guns has carried over to Wantagh where they all have the same goal of trying to win the county championship.

With the Warriors coming so close last year to winning the county championship, this year has been about trying to get back to this point and get over he hump this time. They will once again be going against Manhasset who had the upper hand in last years county final game. This year Wantagh is hoping for different results. Taylor shared that they’ve had the belief for a while that this team has the ability to do something special.

“I feel like ever since we were younger we always played together, and to just think about us being the oldest on the team, we’ve always wanted to win especially from last year. We were all upset that we couldn’t come on top so this year we definitely want to.”

If Wantagh advances to the LIC, they will be heading to Stony Brook University where this will be the first time in the history of the program that they’ll have an opportunity to play for a Long Island Championship. The community has really rallied behind this team over the years and Ingrilli shared what its’ like to live in a town that cares so much about the game of lacrosse.

“It’s definitely cool living in a town that’s lacrosse oriented, and we have a lot of younger girls in the stands and its good to be a good inspiration for them and build up the lacrosse community here.”
