Cold Spring Harbor Player Spotlight with Ava Tighe

Ava Tighe of Cold Spring Harbor has been one of the most explosive offensive players on the island all season. She has helped lead the Seahawks to their second straight Nassau County Class D Championship and is looking to make it consecutive wins in the Long Island Championship in her senior year. Cold Spring Harbor also brought home the state championship back in 2019 and have their first opportunity to do it again for the first time since then. Tighe has been the engineer of the Seahawks offense and has had some unbelievable games during the regular season, twice scoring 7 goals as well as an eight goal game. At the end of her high school career she will be taking her game down to Florida where she will be playing for the Gators.

The 2022 season hasn’t cone without challenges as they have dealt with multiple injuries, but they have responded all season to find themselves in this position of playing for championships. Tighe has had to make adjustments to her game with the players that have been out by having to play more at X as opposed to being a dodger from up top. Tighe shared that the team has also gotten a lot of production from their younger players.

“This team has stepped up. We have a lot of young players who are not afraid to step up… and when our second player got hurt us upperclassmen would say we need help and we need someone to step up, and these freshman and sophomores have been excellent. We couldn’t ask for anything more.”

As a varsity player for four years Tighe shared that the players that came before her showed her what it means to be a varsity player in the Cold Spring Harbor program.

“Being on the team in ninth grade with all of these seniors, they really showed me what it’s meant to a Cold Spring Harbor varsity lacrosse player. Winning that state championship in 2019, I’m excited to hopefully get back on that bus to Cortland and do the same things and reach the same goals.”
