Dylan Harrigan’s Game Winner Clinches Dramatic Victory for Friars 2026 over Wantagh


In an entertaining encounter at the Stony Brook University Indoor Complex, St. Anthony’s 26 pulled off a nail-biting 7-6 victory over Wantagh. The match was a roller-coaster of emotions, with both teams showcasing an exceptional desire to do anything necessary to try and win. Wantagh making their debut in the High School Winter League, held their own throughout the game, leading at various points. However, St. Anthony’s 26, buoyed by their recent win against Huntington, displayed phenomenal fight and despite only leading for 15 seconds, it was in fact the most important 15 seconds of the game.

Key players for St. Anthony’s 26 included Cameron James, who scored crucial goals, including the game-tying goal inside of 3 minutes, displaying remarkable accuracy and composure under pressure. Dylan Harrigan had the final say, as his game winning goal assisted by Danny Rooney secured the Friars’ second consecutive win on the evening.

Wantagh’s performance was commendable, with Dylan Martini the junior heading Albany and Jake Martini the senior committed to Army each standing out with 2 goals and 1 assist. The game was marked by intense defensive efforts from both sides, with goalkeepers Dylan Rappaport and Nick Zenk for St. Anthony’s, and Kyle Conklin for Wantagh all making pivotal saves.

The match concluded with St. Anthony’s 26 executing a late comeback, underscoring their ability to perform under pressure.

These two teams will take the field again December 17 when St. Anthony’s faces Kellenberg at 5:30 and Wantagh against Syosset at 4:45.
