In a game that saw a number of different players step up, the Friars 26 team delivered an outstanding performance against Huntington, culminating in a decisive 13-1 victory at the Stony Brook University Indoor Complex. The game, played on Thursday, December 7, showcased the Friars’ command of the game right from the beginning, with a 7-1 lead in the first half, further extended to 13-1 by the end of the second half.
A big part of the Friars victory was fueled by exceptional performances from Cameron James, who scored 3 goals and provided 4 assists, and Dylan Harrigan, contributing 3 goals. Sean Ronayne and Frank Filiberto also added 2 goals each to the team’s impressive tally. The team’s defense was equally formidable, with Kip Zaccharia securing 3 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers.
Huntington did come into this game very shorthanded as they were without Tommy Kline, Timmy McDonald, Daniel McNulty, Brian Hrybenko, Thomas Girmonti, and Colin Lennon. Despite their efforts, they struggled to get a high number of quality offensive possessions, which was a testament to the stout defense by St. Anthony’s but also some uncharacteristic turnovers by the Blue Devils. Joey Zink scored the only goal for Huntington, with notable defensive contributions from Thomas Breingan and Patrick Knieriem, each securing 2 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers. Goalies Brennan Ackerman and Will Fallon split the duties in the net with Fallon recording a 50% save rate.
Both teams have off this Sunday and will be back in action on December 17 with St. Anthony’s going against the Firebirds of Kellenberg at 5:30pm , and Huntington facing the Mustangs of Mt. Sinai at 6:15pm.
