In the second of back-to-back games for Wantagh, the Warriors rebounded strongly to defeat the Kellenberg Firebirds 8-5. They held a slight 4-3 advantage after the first 20 minutes of play, and tallied 4 more second half goals to Kellenberg’s 2 to claim the win.
Wantagh, driven to overcome a narrow defeat to the St. Anthony’s sophomores, showcased resilience. Albany commit Dylan Martini was a standout, scoring 4 times including an impressive behind-the-back goal. Jake Martini the Army bound senior also contributed with 1 goal as well as a beautiful assist to Luke Martini for a goal. One of the biggest X factors for Wantagh was the display in the net put forth by senior Kyle Conklin who had the hot hand throughout the night in each of their two games.
Kellenberg Firebirds, despite their efforts, couldn’t consistently find the back of the net enough in the second half to come away with the win. Michael Anzelone who’s committed to Navy led the charge with a hat-trick, but it wasn’t enough against to counter Wantagh’s offense. The Firebirds also got one goal each from Maverick Chernoff and Jake Grimm.
Wantagh will be back in action on December 17 against Syosset at 4:45 and the Firebirds will also be in action that same evening at 5:30 against the 2026 team of St. Anthony’s.
