No. 14 Ranked Cold Spring Harbor Seahawks Team Preview

As we now get to number 14 in the LILJ top 24 preseason rankings it’s the back-to-back reigning Class D State Champion Cold Spring Harbor Seahawks. One of Long Island’s most storied lacrosse programs, the Seahawks are led by longtime Head Coach Dennis Bonn who has brought this program a total of six state championships in his illustrious coaching career. The 2024 season is about trying to remain the team to beat and go for the three-peat.

The Seahawks offense did see some key graduates in the 2023 class, but return the majority of their attack and midfield from last season. Their second leading point producer last season was Alex Bauer the Michigan commit who returns for his junior season after a 30 goal, nine assist season last year from the midfield. The midfield also sees the return of junior Sam Bruno and senior Ryan McGloin the Middlebury commit, as the two combined for 34 points in 2023. Adding to their plethora of returning midfield is Gunnar Anderson (Quinnipiac) who returns after missing last season due to injury, Sam Giarraputo, Brady McKean, and Rex O’Connor as they look to fill the absence of 2023 graduate CJ Reilly who is now a freshman playing for Michigan.

Cold Spring Harbor has arguably the top player on the island in the class of 2027 in attack/middie Roy Testa. As an eighth grader last year Testa was a starter and delivered on the biggest of stages with 17 goals and six assists for 23 points. Rounding out the Seahawks attack is seniors Reagan Reilly and Andrew Mazzei, and junior Roger Testa. One key absence from their staring attack last year is 2023 graduate Hayden Calabretta who totaled 23 points last season.

Defensively the Seahawks are always among the top defenses on Long Island and in the state of New York, and will likely be right up there as one of the elite defenses in 2024. They bring back key defensemen and LSM’s Jack Cutrone, Hunter Yulico, Timmy Pisano, and Cole Newman, but unfortunately they will be without Jack Romano this season due to a knee injury. This season they’ll have a new face in the net replacing last year’s goalie Carson Kirchner as senior James Grego is likely to be their starting goalie as the last line of defense. Last year Cold Spring Harbor was tough to score on, allowing only an average of 5.5 goals per game.

This season sees the Seahawks play a number of high level opponents in Nassau County as part of the new power conference, and they’ll look to end the season once again on top in Class D.
