W.C. Mepham Triumphs over New Hyde Park to Head to Quarterfinals

On Tuesday W.C. Mepham hosted New Hyde Park in the opening round of the Class B playoffs. From the opening whistle, W.C. Mepham displayed their dominance, seizing control of the game early on. The first quarter saw them surge ahead with a commanding lead, putting five points on the board while holding New Hyde Park scoreless.

Despite New Hyde Park’s efforts to rally in the second quarter, W.C. Mepham maintained their momentum, keeping their opponents at bay and adding three more points to their tally. However, New Hyde Park managed to find their footing, notching two points to narrow the gap as halftime approached.

As the game progressed into the third quarter, both teams traded blows, with W.C. Mepham and New Hyde Park each adding four points to their scores.

In the final quarter, New Hyde Park fought valiantly to stage a comeback, scoring three points in an effort to turn the tide. However, W.C. Mepham stood firm, matching their opponents point for point to secure their victory.

When the final whistle blew, it was W.C. Mepham who emerged triumphant, clinching a hard-fought win with a final score of 15-9 to open the playoffs with a victory.

Individual performances also shone brightly on both sides, with standout players making significant contributions to their teams’ efforts. Aidan Garvey had a total of six points with three goals and three assist and four ground balls leading the way for New Hyde Park, and Cody McLean adding on 4 goals.

For W.C. Mepham, Liam Williams and James Henningson led the charge with a combined total of eleven points, and Owen Heller adding a toatal of 4 points with one goal three assist while goalkeeper Nicholas Lemus delivered a stellar performance between the posts, making twelve crucial saves to help secure the win.

The victory for W.C. Mepham means they advance to the quarterfinals where they will take on the reigning two-time state champion Garden City Trojans on Friday at 4:30.

New Hyde Park ends their season with an overall record of 6-10.
