In a Suffolk Class A Quarterfinals match on Tuesday, May 14th, the William Floyd protected home turf against Connetquot at the Lincoln Ave Sports Complex with a 12-8 victory over fifth seed Connetquot in a four vs five matchup.
From the outset, both teams demonstrated their determination to dominate the field. The first quarter saw a tight competition, with William Floyd securing a narrow lead of 3 points to Connetquot’s 2. However, as the game progressed, William Floyd began to pull away, widening the gap in the subsequent quarters. By halftime, they had amassed a commanding lead, with a score of 9-3.
Despite Connetquot’s valiant efforts to stage a comeback in the latter half of the game, William Floyd maintained their composure and continued to hold their lead. By the final whistle, William Floyd emerged victorious with a final score of 12-8.
Sydney Elizalde from Connetquot showcased her offensive prowess with 3 goals and 1 assist, while Bianca Graham contributed 2 goals for her team. On the William Floyd side, Kayden Meyer stood out with an impressive performance, securing 4 goals and 1 assist, supported by Kayla Gilmore with 2 goals and 2 assists. Floyd also saw 2 goals each from Jayla Pimental and Madison Widecki and 1 goal and 1 assist from Emma DiMaio.
In the goaltending department, Shannon Morley from Connetquot made 6 saves, while Julia Hipperling from William Floyd showcased her defensive capabilities with an excellent game, saving 10 shots with a save percentage of 55%.
The victory propels William Floyd into the semifinals where they will travel to face the number one seed Ward Melville Patriots on Friday at 4pm. Connetquot’s season comes to end but they put together a very strong year where they went 11-5 in the regular season finishing fifth overall in Class A.
Floyd will look to win the rematch this time around against Ward Melville after falling in the regular season to them 11-5.
