Week 2 of the LILJ Girls High School Winter League did not disappoint, with a number of competitive games across all three divisions including buzzer beater finishes, and some great individual performances. In the middle school division each team completed their four pool play games and are getting set for the playoffs in January, while the junior varsity and high school divisions continued their pool play matchups to battle for seeding in each pool. Last week even saw some teams make their winter league debuts with Team 91 Roar and Sayville JV. After a full slate of games on December 14th and 15th, let’s refresh with a week 2 weekend recap of all of the matchups ahead of the start of week 3 tomorrow morning!
Team 91 2031 Crush vs YJ Curcio 2031
Entering the second week of pool play it was battle 2031s between 91 Crush seeking their first win and YJ Curcio looking to go 2-0. Through the first nine minutes of play both teams were exchanging goals, playing to a 2-2 score before it was YJ Curcio going on a 4-1 scoring run the remainder of the first half with goals scored by four different players to lead 6-3 after the first 20 minutes of play. As part of the 4-1 scoring run YJ Curcio saw Raya Needle, Cameron Falkman, Ashley Manolakes, and Zoey Verderosa all find the back of the net. In the second half YJ Curcio extended their lead, outscoring 91 Crush 6-4 in the second half propelling them to a 12-7 win for their second win in pool play. The offense for YJ Curcio was well balanced as Needle, Falkman, Manolakes, and Giuliana Mancini each scored two goals, while Aubrey O’Hanley, Zoey Verderosa, Madison Bratton, and Brielle Ensel each scored once along with two assists from Ensel. Defensively Addison Leopardi was a clearing machine for YJ Curcio and secured two ground balls to go with one caused turnover. Lilly Glick also recorded two ground balls and a caused turnover, and in goal Olivia Goldacker was 60% on saves, saving 6/10 shots, while Maris Satras recorded two saves on five shots. For 91 Crush they were led in scoring by Holly Schenkel with two goals and got one goal each from Maeve Fraser, Piper Mancuso, Layla Muller, Kelsey Lynch and Madison Degnan. Harley Leake was great at finding teammates dishing out three assists and also forced two turnovers. Defender Sofia Sparacello had a team high three ground balls and also two caused turnovers.
YJ Curcio 2031 vs YJ O’Sullivan 2030
In the second of two straight games for YJ Curcio, they faced the 2030s of YJ O’Sullivan who entered with a record of 2-0 in pool play. This matchup saw YJ O’Sullivan have the upper hand, winning this one 12-6 fueled by a strong first half that saw them build a five goal lead in the first half, outscoring YJ Curcio 7-2 over the first 20 minutes and forcing nine first half turnover on YJ Curcio. In the second half YJ Curcio found their footing, however YJ O’Sullivan still had a slight edge, winning the second half scoring 5-4 to go on to win 12-6 and improve to 3-0 in pool play. Valentina Lorendini’s hat-trick was good enough to lead YJ O’Sullivan in goals, but it was a collective effort that led them to victory. Also adding two goals each was Nicolette Parise, Madelyn Georgi and Kendall Logan who also recorded two assists. Lilly Arnone was 75% on draws going 3/4, and on the offensive end scored one goal with two assists. Bryn Guariglia had a team high four ground balls and three caused turnovers as well as one goal and one assist while Cara Oliver found the back of the net once along with three ground balls and one caused turnover. In the cage for YJ O’Sullivan the duo of Alina Cooper and Olivia Preston each tallied three saves. One of the big factors in YJ O’Sullivan coming away with the win was the 23-14 advantage in ground balls. For YJ Curcio their six goals were scored by six different players, including Aubrey O’Hanley, Giuliana Mancini, Ashley Manolakes, Zoey Verderosa, Olivia Garritano, and Charlotte Hoschel.
Team 91 Frenzy 2030 vs Team 91 Fire 2029
In a 91 vs 91 clash the 2030s of Frenzy faced the 2029s of Fire and it was the 30s getting a big win by a score of 21-2 to move to 2-0 in pool play. For 91 Frenzy Evelyn Avery continues to be one of premier standouts in the league at attack, putting up video game type of numbers. Avery stuffed the stat sheet, scoring a whopping seven goals with two assists while also adding four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Emerson LaPenna also had a big game with three goals, two assists and three ground balls. Scoring two goals each for 91 Frenzy was Mia Arnone, Emma Regan, Elle Meyer, and Kalina Jasinska, while Francesca Dickson, Ashley Callahan, and Aubrey Travers all added one goal. On the draw circle Travers was 75% winning 3/4. In goal was Maryann Scarnati who finished with a 71% save percentage making five saves on seven shots on goal. Two big keys was 91 Frenzy winning the ground ball battle 24-14 and the turnover battle 24-9. For 91 Fire it was Jordyn Barraud and Elise Larsen scoring one goal each.
Westhampton JV vs Tradition 2029
Week 2 of pool play in the JV division opened up with the Hurricanes of Westhampton taking on the 2029s of GC Tradition, and this one was controlled by the Hurricanes, improving their pool play record to 2-1 with a 14-6 win. In both halves it was Westhampton outscoring Tradition by four, leading 6-2 at the half and winning the second half scoring 8-4. Both Mia Mastropierro and Teagan Dorn tallied three goals and one assist, with Mackenzie Klammer also adding a hat-trick and four ground balls. Filippa Halvorsen, Katelyn Salerno, Josephine Derby, Grace Hart, and Katy Lourenco all scored one goal each, and leading the team in ground balls was Lourenco with five in the game. Defensively, Grace Chroma was a clearing machine for Hurricanes getting the ball up to the offensive end of the field, while also coming up with the ground balls. The ability for Westhampton to value possessions was a big key in their victory, only turning the ball over 12 times while forcing 18 on Tradition. On the other side, Tradition’s Grace Wheeler and Ella Melendez contributed with two goals each, and Emily Bennett and Ava Reni each scored once.
Bayport JV vs Team 91 Roar 2029
Making their winter league debut was Team 91 Roar, taking on the reigning champs the Phantoms of Bayport, and in their first game 91 showcased why they’re a top ranked club team in the country, as they defeated Bayport 14-6, outscoring them 7-4 in the first half and 7-2 in the second half. Midfielder Avah Robinson filled up the box score, scoring four goals with one assist, four ground balls and going 2/2 on draws. Michaela Grever also totaled five points with three goals and two assists, and Riley Williams had a hat-trick and was 75% on draws going 3/4. Rounding out the scoring was Sarah Flynn with two goals and one goal each from Addison Fox and Elle Carrara. Carrara’s goal proved to be a turning point in the game as she forced a turnover by the phantoms and took the ball end to end for the lefty finish to increase the lead to 4-2 with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half. On the other side the Phantoms got a three goal, one assist performance from Teagan Dorn, and one goal each from Ava Adams, Kaelyn Aiello, and Charlotte Bishop who also had four caused turnovers.
Team 91 Fusion 2028 vs Huntington JV
The 2028s of 91 Fusion took on the Huntington JV squad, in a matchup between two teams looking for their first win in pool play, and this was a contest that went right down to wire, not being decided until inside of 30 seconds remaining. In the first half goals were at a premium, but the Blue Devils held a 2-0 lead just over seven minutes into the game, before 91 scored the last three goals of the half to take a 3-2 lead at the half. The second half also proved to be a defensive oriented, but with Huntington trailing by a goal with five minutes remaining Shea Gilroy delivered the game tying goal, scooping and scoring right in front of the cage for her second goal of the game. This one remained a 4-4 game and with 22 seconds remaining Madison Paccione delivered a great feed to a wide open Delaney Diesso who shot high to low for what proved to be the game winner, giving 91 Fusion a 5-4 win over Huntington. The victory for 91 Fusion gave them their first win in pool play, improving their record to 1-1. All five goals were scored by five different individuals, including Delaney Diesso, Madison Paccione, Gianna Forgione, Delia Pawlak, and Giada Johnson. Delia Pawlak was perfect on the draw going 4/4, and Liv Marksberry had a team high three caused turnovers. Makayla Blaising tallied nine saves with a save percentage of 69%. Huntington was led by Shea Gilroy’s two goals and four ground balls, followed by one goal each from Norah Golden and Grace Callery.
Westhamptom JV vs Team 91 Roar 2029
In the second game of the day for both teams, each was coming off of a win in game 1, and it wound up being 91 Roar earning their second win of the morning, defeating the talented Westhampton JV team by a score of 10-5. 91 won the first half scoring 5-3 and the second half scoring 5-2. A collective effort on the offensive end of the field was what helped them earn the win, as Avah Robinson, Sarah Flynn, Addison Fox, and Michaela Grever each found the back of the net twice, with Grever also dishing out two assists. Juliet Diorio added one goal with two assists and Keira Pellizzi tallied one goal. Lily Gentile made six saves with a 67% save percentage. For Westhampton Mia Mastropierro, Katelyn Salerno, Teagan Dorn, Raelin Dorn, and Josephine Derby scored the Hurricanes five goals. Salerno was 75% on the draw, going 3/4, and in goal Ava Michalowski saved 5/10 shots, playing in the second half of the game.
Tradition 2029 vs Team 91 Roar 2029
Two of the top 2029s faced off as Tradition squared off against 91 Roar who looked to make it a perfect 3-0 on the day, and they proved to be successful, earning a 10-6 win, relying on a commanding first half as they jumped out to a 7-2 lead, while winning the second half scoring 4-3 to secure the win. The defense which played at a high level all day long, continued to do so in this contest, forcing 20 turnovers, and holding Tradition to just 13 shots for the game. Midfielder Avah Robinson had a game high three caused turnovers, and defenders Alice Westfall, Vanessa Novelli and Samantha Miale each created two takeaways. On the offensive end Robinson and Riley Williams struck for a hat-trick, and Williams was 100% on the draw circle going 4/4. The quartet of Riley LaRocca, Elle Carrara, Michaela Grever, and Keira Pellizzi all added one goal. In the ground ball department Avah Robinson was a gb machine, scooping up six off the ground to lead all players. Tradition’s Maddie Leder found the back of the net twice, and Audrey Donahue, Sadie Brantuk, Kaila Hansman, and Valentina Altamirano contributed with one goal each. Emily Bennett was the leader in caused turnovers for Tradition, coming up with three takeaways.
FLG 2028 Navy vs Sayville JV
Coming into this matchup it was 2-0 FLG against Sayville JV making their winter league debut, and FLG managed to remain undefeated in pool play with an 11-4 win. What was a close contest in the first half with FLG leading 5-3 saw them pull away in the second half, outscoring Sayville 6-1 resulting in the seven goal win. Ireland Pinner and Stella Efstathiou each scored twice to go with one assist and two ground balls for FLG who saw a total of nine different players in the scoring column. Defensively Claire Dello-Iacono recorded three ground balls, and Emma Lembo and Lyla Madrigales each had a ground ball and a caused turnover. In the net for FLG was Molly Giordano going 50% in saves, saving 4/8 shots on goal. Sayville was led in scoring by Julia Madsen with two goals, while Elle Holbrook and Callie Smith scored once to round out the scoring. One of Sayville’s standouts on the defensive end was seventh grader Avery Wade who had five ground balls and also forced two turnovers.
YJ Friedman 2029 vs Sayville JV
The 2029s of YJ Friedman continued to show why they’re one of the top club teams in the country as they earned a big win over Sayville who was playing in their second straight game. Earning an 18-3 win, the offense was firing on all cylinders, as they scored nine goals in each half, and pitched a shutout in the second half defensively. Ella Schopp continues to be a pure goal scoring machine, scoring four goals to lead all scorers. Nicole Manolakes and Natalie Takacs both struck for three goals, and Sophia Enea and Ella Dragonette added two. Avery Needle has been a tremendous distributor for YJ Friedman and had four assists along with a goal for five points in the game. Regan LaLota was a defensive standout, between her anticipation and laying her body on the line drawing charges as she had a game high three caused turnovers. Julia Ver Straten was a perfect 4/4 on saves in the second half. Sayville’s Ella Lessing scored two goals and Julia Madsen added one goal and two assists.
YJ Napolitano/Chamberlain 2028 vs YJ Voss 2026
In a freshman vs junior matchup it was the upperclassmen of YJ Voss earning their first win in pool play, defeating YJ Napolitano/Chamberlain 9-5 for their first win in pool play to improve their record to 1-1. Despite the difference in age this was a competitive game as YJ Voss had a slim advantage in the first half, holding a 4-2 lead through the first 20 minutes, They narrowly outscored YJ Nap in the second half 5-3 for the four goal victory. It was a well balanced offense for YJ Voss, with Taylor Murtha scoring twice and seven different players each adding a goal to fill the box score. Goalie Alyssa Tappin saw 11 shots and was 55% in saves. Caitlin Oliver struck for a game high three goals on four shots going 2/2 on 8 meters for YJ Nap.
Long Beach vs St. Anthony’s Gold
Two 1-0 teams faced off as the Marines took on the Friars, and this one proved to be a game of runs in the first half as Long Beach held a 5-3 lead inside of four minutes remaining before St. Anthony’s scored two late goals to tie the game at 5-5 going into halftime. The momentum the Friars gained carried over into the second half as they outscored Long Beach 6-2 to come away with an 11-7 victory and move to 2-0. In the net for St. Anthony’s in the second half was Gabriella Lemieux (LIU) who only allowed two second half goals while going 67% in saves. One of Long Islands premier uncommitted defenders junior Blake Pasqualone was all over the field defensively with a game high six ground balls and also two caused turnovers, keeping Long Beach’s offense in check. Offensively Cameron Pupke (Princeton) had a dominant game with five goals, two assists, three ground balls, two caused turnovers, and went 3/4 on draw controls. Northwestern commit Anna Christie went for three goals, and two assists. Long Beach was led in scoring by Sky Kilfeather (FSU) and Delaney Chernoff (Denver) each scoring two goals, while the trio of Emma O’Donnell, Mia Warren, and Sienna Warren all added one goal.
St. Anthony’s White vs ESM
The sophomores of St. Anthony’s battled ESM and both teams were seeking their first win in pool play, but this turned out to be the first game this winter that ended in a tie with a final score of 6-6. It was ESM holding a three goal lead halftime leading 4-1, but the Friars flipped the script in the second half, outscoring ESM 5-2 to end this one in a tie. St. Anthony’s offense was led by Melania Moreo with two goals, and 75% winning percentage on the draw going 3/4, and Chloe Mullady adding two goals, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Beau Davi was all over the field between the lines as the supremely athletic midfielder had a game high five ground balls and six caused turnovers. For ESM Molly McGuire (Cortland) found the back of the net twice, with one goal each from Caitlin Oliver, Kate Valenti, Taylor Mutha, and Ella Dragonette all adding one goal each.
St. Anthony’s Gold vs Ward Melville
In game 2 of the day for the Friars gold team, they cruised to a big win over the Patriots 15-3 to remain undefeated in pool play, moving to 3-0. The prolific offensive talent was on full display as it was Northwestern commit Anna Christie having a stellar game with five goals and one assist for a game high six points. Once again Cameron Pupke (Princeton) proved to be a tough cover for the opposition, striking for four goals going 2-2 on 8 meters and winning 3/3 draws on the circle. At attack Madison Sussi recorded a hat-trick and one assist and led the Friars with four ground balls. In total St. Anthony’s had a sizable advantage in shots over Ward Melville, out shooting the, 31-15. In goal in the first half was Sofia Moschitta (Stony Brook) who was 67% on saves, and in the second half Gabriella Lemieux (LIU) was 75% on saves. For the Patriots Olivia Zummo (Adelphi), Kailey Finley, and Keira Pirozzi (Marist) connected each scored for Ward Melville, while freshman goalie Madeline Butler had a standout game in the net against the vaunted offense of the Friars, saving 7/12 shots on goal for a 58% save percentage.
South Side vs St. Anthony’s White
It was Nassau vs Parochial as the Cyclones took on the super sophomores of St. Anthony’s, and it was South Side securing a four goal win by a score of 11-7. Northwestern bound senior Sienna Connolly found the back of the net three times to lead South Side in scoring, but was also pivotal between the lines as she secured a game high seven ground balls. Ava Curtis (Sacred Heart) managed to score two goals and was also a ground ball machine, coming up with six off the ground, and Reilly Amorosa also scored twice and was near perfect on the draw circle going 5/6. Two of the biggest keys in the Cyclones win was the 18-11 advantage in ground balls and 27-16 advantage in shots. St. Anthony’s was led in scoring by Anna Kosciusko who had three goals on three shots. Beau Davi connected for two goals and one assist and Chloe Mullady and Keira Mangan each scored once.
Westhampton Varsity vs St. Anthony’s Black
Two teams that entered this contest unbeaten in pool play between the Hurricanes and the Friars saw this one go to St. Anthony’s as they cruised to a 16-4, jumping out to a big lead from the middle of the first half onward to stay undefeated and move to 3-0. The story in this game was the junior Florida commit Emma Speed who showed up and showed out. The lefty attacker couldn’t be stopped, lighting it up with seven goals and an assist for an eight point game. Speed also added two caused turnovers to her stat line. Scoring two goals each was Madison Sussi (UMass) and Cameron Pupke (Princeton), while FSU commit Kat Rathjen distributed the rock with five assists to lead the team. In the caused turnover department Julia May O’Connor (Syracuse) forced three takeaways, and Sophia Novelli (Vanderbilt) , and Emma Toner (Lafayette) also added two takeaways. As a team the Friars excelled in protecting the ball, only turning it over three times as a team vs 18 turnovers as a team for Westhampton. The four goals for the Hurricanes offense were scored by Ava Derby (Maryland) and Reagan Schindler each scoring two goals.
Cold Spring Harbor vs ESM
The Seahawks took on the Sharks faced off in a Nassau vs Suffolk showdown and this one went to Suffolk as ESM earned their first win in what was their final pool play game by a score of 8-5. ESM which is known for having very stout defense, hung their hat on that end of the field where they got great first half goaltending from eighth grader Madyn Warsaw. Warsaw was a stellar 78% in saves, stopping 7/9 shots on goal. In the second half Kat Dietz maintained ESM’s strong goaltending, going 50% in saves. On the offensive end of the field Katelynn Murtha was a go-to offensive player for the Sharks, scoring a game high four goals going 2/2 on 8 meter shots and 2/4 on the draw circle. Also adding two goals for the Sharks was Cortland commit Molly McGuire. Cold Spring Harbor had five different players score a goal for them including Sienna Koke, Maggie Spehr (Middlebury), Riley Miller (Scranton), Olivia Mulada, and Ruby Spielberger.
Team 91 2029 Fire vs Team 91 2031 Crush
It was 91 vs 91 as Fire battled Crush in the middle school bracket and it was the 31s from 91 Crush edging out the 29s of 91 Fire 9-7 for their first win in pool play. The two teams played top an even 3-3 score through the first 20 minutes of play, but the 6-4 scoring edge in the second half for 91 Crush proved to be the difference. Scarlett Lentini was a natural quarterback for 91 Crush as an X attacker, finding the back of the net three times along with one assist for a four point game. Showing unmatched hustle and energy was Harley Leake, who was everywhere on the field as a two-way midfielder. Leake put together a complete game, scooping up seven ground balls, forced six turnovers while going 2/4 on the draw and scoring one goal and dishing out an assist. Quinn Kane and Amelia Barone posted identical stat lines with one goal, one assist, three ground balls, and one caused turnover. As for 91 Fire Madeline Warner and Brooke Filosa scored two goals each to lead the way, and on defense Mia Tuccillo in the net saved 11 shots with a 55% save percentage.
Team 91 Frenzy 2030 vs Team 91 Crush 2031
The second straight game for 91 Crush was another fellow 91 team as they faced the 2030s of 91 Frenzy. Team 91 Frenzy picked up a sizable win by a score of 19-4, moving to 3-0 in pool play. Evelyn Avery once again was on a tear, showing that she was born to score goals, striking for four in the game on four shot attempts as well as three ground balls, one draw control and one caused turnover. Kalina Jasinska tallied a hat-trick, and Elle Meyer, Ella Murtha, and Mia Arnone all scored twice, with Arnone also forcing three turnovers. Defensively Lynda Santamaria was a standout with three groundballs, three caused turnovers, with Antonia Gerbinoalso creating three takeaways. For 91 Crush it was Quinn Kane, Harley Leake, Holly Schenkel, and Maeve Fraser scoring one goal each.
YJ O’Sullivan 2030 vs Team 91 Frenzy 2030
Two of the top seventh grade club teams took the field in a highly anticipated matchup as YJ O’Sullivan faced 91 Frenzy in battle of undefeated. What started off with 91 Frenzy in control leading 7-2 in the first half, saw YJ O’Sullivan turn the tide, going on a 3-0 scoring run the last 5:30 of the first half to trim the deficit to 7-5 going into halftime. The second half saw 91 maintain their two goal lead throughout much of the second half, but with less than 30 seconds remaining and an 11-9 lead for 91, Kendall Logan scored in transition on an assist from Kayla Schmalz to make it an 11-10 game, and on the ride Schmalz came up with the turnover and had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, however Maryann Scarnati was able to come with the save to preserve the 11-10 win for 91 to finish pool play undefeated at 4-0 in what was a thrilling finish. Offensively Kalina Jasinska led 91 with four goals, followed by three from Evelyn Avery and two from Francesca Dickson. Adding one goal each was Mia Arnone and Emerson LaPenna. Dickson led 91 with three ground balls and Avery and Jasinska each scooped up two. On the defensive end Hailey LaGala was big in clearing the ball up the field to the offense throughout the game. For YJ O’Sullivan Avery Pescatore scored three times to lead the team, followed by two goals and one assist from Nikki Parise and two goals and two assists for Lilly Arnone who was also 3/5 on the draw circle. Olivia Preston was in the net in the second half and saved 56% of shots with five saves on nine shots on goal.
Team 91 Fire 2029 vs YJ Curcio 2031
The 2029s of 91 Fire took on the 2031s of YJ Curcio in their final game of pool play, and a strong first half for YJ Curcio is what sparked them to a 12-5 victory to finish with a 2-2 record in pool play. They outscored 91 7-1 in the first half, giving them a comfortable advantage, and added one more to their lead in the second half, winning the scoring edge 5-4 in half number two. This one was a well balanced attack for YJ Curcio, as Molly McCabe, Madison Bratton, Cameron Falkman, and Keira Holt each scored two goals, while Aubrey O’Hanley, Ashley Manolakes, Olivia Garritano, and Charlotte Hoschel all added one goal. Manolakes was also 75% on the draw circle going 3/4, and Madison Bratton led the team in ground balls with three. Maris Satras was the first half goalie for YJ Curcio and was 80% in saves with four saves on five shots on goal. Two of the deciding factors in YJ Curcio securing the win was their 34-20 advantage in possessions, and 28-12 advantage in shots. 91’s five goals were scored by five different players with Mary Rae McCooey, Madeline Warner, Allison Karp, Lila Newman, and Giada Johnson all getting into the scoring column. Defensively Charlotte Fortier created three turnovers.
YJ Friedman 2029 vs Huntington JV
The supremely talented and unbeaten YJ Friedman squad faced the Blue Devils jv team, and it was YJ Friedman improving to 3-0 in pool play, cruising to a 22-8 win. They led by eight goals after the first 20 minutes of play by a score of 12-4, and continued to keep their foot on the gas, outscoring Huntington in the second half 10-4. The prolific offense of YJ Friedman was in full effect, with multiple players stuffing the stat sheet. The ESM duo of Ella Schopp and Ella Dragonette combined for 13 points, with Schopp exploding for six goals, and Dragonette doing damage as a feeder, dishing out six assists and scoring one goal. Riley Chiang also had a big offensive game, with four goals and two wins on the draw going 2/2, and Avery Needle and Nicole Manolakes were also a great distributors with four assists from Needle and three from Manolakes. Adding two goals each was Molly McNamara and Natalie Takacs. Harper Kleet had a big game on the defensive end with four ground balls and two caused turnovers, and a ground ball and caused turnover for Emma Glick. Huntington’s offense was fueled by freshman Olivia Puccio who had a big game in her own right, scoring six goals on six shot attempts.
Sayville JV vs Team 91 Thunder 2029
For both Sayville and 91 Thunder they were each seeking their first pool play win, and it was the Golden Flashes who were able to do so, debating 91 Thunder 14-7, with a stellar offensive outing from seventh midfielder grader Julia Madsen. Whether it was dodging to score, or as a distributor, Madsen was in complete control, going for six goals and five assists to account for 11 of Sayville’s 14 goals. Madsen was also scooped up two ground balls with caused turnover. Adding three goals to the mix was Kaycie Craver, while Raya DiStefano and Jordan Hamill scored twice. Hamill was 60% on the Draw circle, going 3/5. Playing the first half in goal was Lia Spikoski tallying five saves on seven shots for a save percentage of 71%. On the opposite side, 91 Thunder was led in scoring by Lila Newman and Marlee Cohen with two goals each, and the trio of Allie Lizza, Brooke Valentine, and Kayla McGuire all finding the back of the net once.
Wantagh vs Sayville Varsity
In a rematch from last year’s Long Island Championship Game the Warriors took on the Golden Flashes, and like last spring, this one went to the Golden Flashes as they defeated Wantagh 14-3. Sayville’s Michigan bound midfielder Sofia Cangelosi set the tone on the draw circle going 5/6 while offensively striking for a game high six goals. Nikki Graziano (St. Leo) recored a hat-trick, and Carly Cangelosi (Rutgers) and sophomore Grace Jabour each dished out three assists with one goal scored. Sayville’s Leah Cohen and Sienna Lahmann had a game high three caused turnovers. In the cage was Julia Lilienthal the Vanderbilt commit who had a 67% save percentage with six saves on nine shots. Despite the loss for Wantagh, Iona bound goalie Madeline Gonzalez racked up the saves as she stopped 10/16 shots faced for a 63% save percentage. Offensively it was Juliana Cerasi (JMU) with two goals and one goal from Madeline Drago.
Commack vs Westhampton Varsity
This one was a Class A vs Class C Suffolk County matchup between the Cougars and the Hurricanes, and it was a game of runs in this matchup as Commack jumped out in front to an early 3-0 lead in the first half before Westhampton responded with four unanswered goals the remaining nine minutes of the first half to take a 4-3 lead into halftime. The back and forth continued in the second half with Commack jumping back in front 5-4, then 6-5 before Westhampton scored three consecutive goals to take an 8-6 lead late in the game which proved to be enough as they eventually held on for an 8-7 win. Maryland commit Ava Derby found the back of the net three times on four shots and was a perfect 3/3 on the draw circle. Going for two goals and one assist was sophomore Reagan Schindler and defensively Dagney Beasley was big in the clearing game and also scooped up five ground balls. LIU commit Caeden Dorn secured six ground balls which was a team high. Maya Farnan the UPenn bound goalie was once again a difference maker in the net with only seven goals allowed and a number of clutch saves to help secure the win. For Commack the trio of Emily Parisi (Sacred Heart), Lili Pettit (Stony Brook), and Samantha Benedict scored one goal each, while Amelia Brite (FSU), and Ashley Arizonis each scored two.
Cold Spring Harbor vs South Side
Two of Nassau County’s Power Conference teams to the field as the Seahawks squared off against the Cyclones. Goals were at a premium in this matchup but a competitive contest saw Cold Spring Harbor edge out South Side 7-5. Once again this was another day at the office for Florida bound goalie Maya Soskin, posting 10 saves on 15 shots faced for a 67% save percentage. Offensively their lefty sophomore attacker Olivia Mulada was responsible for six of the seven Seahawk goals, scoring five times and dishing out one assist for a six point outing. Fellow sophomore Bridget Willcocks struck for two goals, rounding out the offense. Sophomore Lyla Long was vital for Cold Spring Harbor in the clearing game getting the ball up the offense. For South Side, Annie Chimienti’s (Canisius) hat-trick led the Cyclones offense, and Sienna Connolly (Northwestern) and Bobbie Creo scored one goal each. Ava Curtis (Sacred Heart went perfect on the draw circle going 5/5. In the caused turnover department sophomore Reese Long had a big impact between her anticipation and alertness as she forced three takeaways.
Cold Spring Harbor vs YJ Maget/Bertolone
In the second of two straight games for Cold Spring Harbor, this one was against the freshman phenoms of YJ Maget/Bertolone, and it was YJ winning their third straight game in pool play by a score of 9-4 to move to 3-0 with one more game remaining. It was a 4-0 lead at the half for YJ and they added to it as they outscored Cold Spring Harbor 5-4 in the second half for the win. The headliner in this game was the YJ’s goaltender Juliet Johnson who was an absolute brick wall, with a first half shut out and in total tallying 10 saves on 14 shots for a 71% save percentage. On the offensive end Addison Kelly, Bowen Schmitt, and Nora Ruddy each struck for two goals, and Jennavieve Lineman, Jamie Medico, and Katie Murphy added one goal each. For Cold Spring Harbor it was Olivia Mulada finding the back of the net twice, and Lyla Long and Ruby Spielberger scored once.
GC Tradition vs YJ Napolitano/Chamberlain
The upperclassmen from GC Tradition battled the freshman of YJ Napolitano/Champerlain and it proved to be the upperclassmen having the upper hand as they earned a comfortable win by a score of 13-6 for their second pool play win with two more to play. The duo of Abby Wheeler (Lafayette) and Rylee Kirchner provided a bulk of the offense, each going for three goals in the game on a very efficient four shots on goal. Rounding out the scoring for Tradition was two goals from Madeline Drago and Caeden Dorn (LIU), and one goal each from Sophie Deifel (Binghamton), Sienna Connolly (Northwestern) and Teagan Dorn. The sizable advantage for Tradition in ground balls (19-9) and shots (26-14) was a big contributor to them earning the win. For YJ Napolitano/Chamberlain, Caitlin Oliver added two goals on three shots, and scoring one goal each was Kaylee FitzGibbon, Gabriella LaGala, Maeve Feldman, and Kayla Grochow.
YJ Voss 2026 vs FLG 2027
It was sophomores vs juniors as FLG took on YJ Voss and the upperclassmen came out on top with YJ Voss defeating FLG 12-6, boosted by a very strong first half where they outscored them 10-2 to build a comfortable lead, with FLG slightly trimming the deficit in the second half, outscoring YJ Voss 4-2. The attack duo of Kaleigh Howard (Old Dominion) and Taylor Murtha (Sacred Heart) combined for seven goals, with four from Howard and three from Murtha to ignite the offense. In the cage was Charlotte Cuneo who was 60% on saves stopping 10/16 shots. Between the lines with a big impact was Sarah Vrljcak on defense coming up with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. FLG’s six goals were scored by Ashley Arizonis and Danielle Perfetto with two goals each, and one goal each from Charlotte Radigan and Audrey Shen.
Harborfields vs Mt. Sinai
Two Suffolk Class C opponents went head to head as the Tornadoes faced the Mustangs in what was arguably the game of the weekend, and this one was a game of runs. In the first half Sinai held a lead of as many as three goals, leading 5-2 and ultimately 5-3 going into halftime. The second half is where Harborfields rallied to take the lead, setting up a back and forth affair with the two teams exchanging leads. It wasn’t until the final seconds where Harborfields trailed by a goal at 9-8 and needing the ball where Bella Monteleone (Stony Brook) intercepted a pass intended for goalie Kathryn Arrington, and Monteleone made a feed that was secured by Nora Ruddy on the bounce and she came through in the clutch, scoring at the buzzer to tie the game at nine which is how this one finished. The buzzer beater was Ruddy’s fourth for the game to lead the team in scoring while Monteleone added a hat-trick. For Mount Sinai it was Alexa Spallina (Clemson) striking for four goals and one assist, and two goals each from Cady Flaherty (UVA) and Gabby Sardi, while Emma DiMaio (Stony Brook) dished out three assist along with a goal.
Garden City vs Huntington Varsity
One of Nassau County’s powerhouses the Garden City Trojans took on one of Suffolk County’s contenders the Huntington Blue Devils, and it was Garden City coming away with a 12-9 victory, as the first half is what proved to be the difference, where they outscored Huntington 5-2. The second half both teams played to an even score of 7-7. Northwestern bound senior Kyle Finnell showed why she’s always a matchup nightmare, going for four goals and two assists for six points to lead the team in scoring. Striking for two goals was Harvard commit Ashley Clark, and in goal Kate Connolly totaled six saves. In the ground ball department Kathryn Monaco (Villanova) recored a game high five gb’s. Huntington’s Sabrina Boyle (Binghamton) went for a hat-trick and two assists, leading the team. Jolie Weinschreider (Rutgers) scored twice and was also 4/6 on draw controls while Grace Gordon (Lafayette) provided two assists and a goal.
Comsewogue vs Garden City
Going for consecutive wins was Garden City as they the Comsewogue Warriors, and they managed to do so, defeating Comsewogue 10-6 to move to 2-1 in pool play with one more game remaining. This one was a collective effort offensively between two goals each from the attack trio of Michaela Molgano (UPenn), Kyle Finnell (Northwestern) and Averie Smith (Yale) to lead the team in scoring. Garden City also got contributions from Tori Ottomanelli (Harvard), Leelee Gaffney (American), Arci Haffner (Holy Cross) and Deanna Prisco (Northwestern) all scoring once with also three caused turnovers from Prisco. Once again Kate Connolly had a strong game in net, recording six saves and a save percentage of 54%. Comseowgue’s Vienna Guzman (Bryant) and Jayla Callendar both recorded two goals, and one goal each from Gianna McNulty (Binghamton) and Mikaela Knott adding a goal.
YJ Gaghan/Torre vs Commack
In a high school vs club lacrosse game this featured som of the islands premier high school talent as the 2027s of YJ Gaghan/Torre faced the Commack Cougars, and it proved to be one of the most competitive games of the weekend. The two teams played a back and forth game with Commack jumping out to a 2-0 lead before YJ answered back with three straight goals to lead 3-2, but ultimately Commack led at the half by a score of 6-5. The second half saw this one come down to a dramatic finish as Commack held a 10-9 lead inside of 20 seconds remaining needing a stop on a Megan Florio 8 meter shot, and it was goalie Olivia Bexmalinovic coming up clutch with a big save to preserve the lead and the win by a final score of 10-9. The Cougars offensively were sparked by Amelia Brite’s (FSU) five goals and a hat-trick from Aubrey Maurer (UConn). Brite also recored four ground balls and three caused turnovers while Maurer was 3/4 on the draw circle with four ground balls as well. YJ’s offense saw three goals scored by Reagan Schindler and two by Violet Ortenzi to account for five of their nine goals.
YJ Gaghan/Torre vs Manhasset
Going back-to-back on the evening was YJ Torre/Gaghan, this time facing the powerhouse from Manhasset. Both teams were seeking their first win pool play, and it was Manhasset who ultimately came away with the victory, using a strong second half to defeat YJ by a score of 13-8. The two teams played to a 4-4 tie through the first 20 minutes of play, but it was the 9-4 second half advantage for Manhasset that was the difference. A big offensive outing for Princeton commit Elim Yang who scored four goals led the way for the offense, while Harper Lambert (Duke) was good for two goals and two assists and a game high four caused turnovers. Natalie Mascitti (Hamilton) and sophomore Danielle Perfetto also accounted for two goals each, and Perfetto was also 2/3 on the draw circle. The often times explosive offense of YJ Torre/Gaghan was held in check thanks to the stellar play of Manhasset’s Stanford bound goalie Ruby Cacioppo who tallied 13 saves and a save percentage of 62%. On the opposite side six different players scored one goal each for YJ and Maeve Bourguignon scored twice to lead the team. On the draw circle Stamatia Almiroudis was 3/3 and Bourguignon went 2/2. Leah Cohen defensively caused two turnovers for YJ Torre/Gaghan.
Manhasset vs Westhampton Varsity
In the final game of the weekend, it was a potential Long Island Championship preview as Manhasset faced Westhampton in their second straight game. These two teams played in a shootout and it was ultimately Manhasset getting their second straight win, defeating the Hurricanes 14-11. Once again the combination of Harper Lambert (Duke) and Elim Yang (Princeton) were dynamic playmakers as the two combined for 15 points with eight from Lambert and seven from Yang. Grayson Denihan and Sarah Weigand each added one goal and one assist, and sophomore Danielle Perfetto scored one of the highlights of the weekend with a fantastic twizzler shot right in front of the cage. Defensively Joy D’Angelo had a team high three caused turnovers for Manhasset. The Hurricanes were led by their prolific UNC bound midfielder Reese King with four goals, one assist and going 3/6 on draws. Adding two goals each was Ava Derby (Maryland) and Maiya Boughal (Dartmouth), along with one goal and two assists for Sofia Amodemo.
