No. 26 Ranked Harborfields Tornadoes Team Preview

There’s nothing cooler in sports than when a legend returns home. Just ask the people associated with Harborfields’ Boys’ lacrosse, who graciously welcome back their own Glenn Lavey, the 2017 & 2018 Suffolk County Coach of the Year, to lead the Tornadoes at the helm in 2026. Lavey left the program in 2024 to pursue the head job at Port Washington after serving as head coach since 2013, and after only a year away, Lavey took the golden road home. The Tornadoes still continued their traditioned success under coach Ryan Conroy a season ago, finishing 9-7 with a playoff berth baked in. It’s the program’s sixth postseason appearance in the last seven years, and with Coach Lavey back in the drivers’ seat this season, it’s hard to imagine a playoff bracket without this squad in it.

It’s a season of turnover for the Tornadoes’ offense, who graduated five of its six top scorers from last year. Though they still have their crown jewel, senior attackman Chris Prainito, who led Harborfields with 54 points in 2025 (26 G, 28 A) as well as other notable rising talent ready to step up. Prainito is as balanced of an offensive threat as there is in Suffolk County. The lefty showed off his ability to create offense with his timely feeds and hard dodges to the net, all while keeping defenses honest with his exceptional off hand. It wouldn’t come as a shock if he developed a nice chemistry with Mason LaRocco, the dominant senior face off specialist who also saw plenty of offensive minutes through the midfield for Harborfields in 2025. LaRocco finished the year with 11 points (9 G, 2A) and we could only expect his usage to expand this season. Adding to their offense in the senior class is Pace commit Michael Caccamo. Vern Bratton Jr., the talented sophomore attackman is a potential breakout candidate in his third varsity season. Keep an eye out for him. Harborfields lost their stud goalkeeper from 2025, Nick Schiliro, but all signs point to sophomore Colin McGay getting his number called to defend the cage for the Tornadoes this year. Defending him this year will be his brother Ryan McGay, Tyler Tom (Molloy), and Dylan Kast, among others. Coach Lavey has historically had sound defenses in his time leading the varsity program, making this bit of an unknown unit an exciting question mark, rather than a nervous one. The Tornadoes haven’t hoisted the Suffolk County Championship plaque since 2019, but with a refreshed head coach and a cupboard of talent at his disposal, this Harborfields Boys’ team is hungry to get back. They open up the season with a non-league matchup on 3/19 against Sachem East before they begin league play when they face Kings Park on 3/21.
