Under Armour Coaches Ft: Mike Hungerford

Long Island is well known for being the source of some of the greatest lacrosse talents in the country. Lacrosse on Long Island is considered the premiere level of lacrosse, and for coach Mike Hungerford, he wants his team to embrace the reputation of Long Island. “We are proud to be from Long Island,” says Hungerford.

As Hungerford’s team enters the UA Long Island Games, winning is not the end all be all. He wants his team to enjoy the experience and not lose sight of the process. “The experience is what you make of it,” says Hungerford.

With the talent from all over the country presented at the UA games, Hungerford also tells his team to remain focused on themselves and not to get lost in worrying about their opponents. He believes if his team focuses on themselves, there are very few things that can get in their way.

“If we focus on what we are going to do, who we are going to be, how we are going to play, and not worry about what the other people are doing, we will be better off because of it,” says the Farmingdale coach.

Hungerford will be entering his third year coaching the UA games, and he has high praise for the prestigious event. He credits the UA games for doing a good job promoting the event, using social media, and always bringing the best talent possible to the games themselves. He also says how players aren’t required to be there, but the players want to be there due to the reputation of the games saying, “No one has to be there, but a lot of kids want to be there because it is kind of a prestigious event.”
