No. 11 Ranked Rocky Point Eagles Team Preview

Continuing to climb the ladder in the LILJ top 24 preseason rankings, we get to number 11 which is the Rocky Point Eagles. This Suffolk Class C contender enters the season under new leadership as Kaitlyn Montalbano takes over as the new head coach of what is a very talented program. Last season they won 11 games during the regular season and appeared in the playoffs, but were narrowly defeated in the quarterfinals in an 8-7 game against Shoreham. The Eagles utilized the offseason by playing in the HSWL to prepare for a season that they hope sees them bounce back in the playoffs and go on a deep playoff run looking to be the last team standing.

Rocky Point brings back a plethora of talented players across all positions making them a tough out in their conference. At attack it begins with senior Wofford commit McKenzie Moeller as their lefty goal scorer and facilitator. After a strong junior season where she recorded 41 points, Moeller was one of the top performers in the winter league, finishing top three in points at 34 with 15 goals and 19 assists. Kaleigh Moeller the sophomore and younger sister to McKenzie adds to the offense as an attack/midfielder that impacts the game on the draw circle, and scored 10 goals along with three assists last year as a freshman. One player to look out for in the 2027 class is Cadence Adamo who saw plenty of playing time this winter and will be an impact player for Rocky Point throughout her high school career.

Running first midfield for Rocky point is the junior duo of Kylie Lamoureux the future Maryland Terp, and Brown commit Fiona Vu along with senior USF commit Anna Wood. Last season Lamoureux the dominant two-way middie was their overall leader in points with 48, while Vu was third last year in points with 39. As for Wood, she found the back of the net 16 times in six winter league games and consistently makes plays that may not always shown in the box score but can often be the difference between wins and losses.

Defensively, between key defenders in junior Violet Freebody (Slippery Rock), sophomore Megan Curtin, their two-way middies, and Breezy Henke (UMass) in the net, the Eagles look to be a very stout defensive team this season after allowing fewer than eight goals per game in 2023. Henke totaled 96 saves last year after splitting the goalie duties with Alexa Kuhn, and now enters her first season as the full time starter.

With Suffolk Class C running very deep with contenders, Rocky Point will be battling some of island’s premier competition for the right to be the top team in the county.
