On Thursday, December 7, at the Stony Brook University Indoor Complex, Ward Melville secured a solid win against Smithtown West with a final score of 11-7. The game began with Ward Melville establishing a sufficient lead in the first half, scoring 8 goals to Smithtown West’s 3. They maintained their lead in the second half, adding 3 more goals to their tally.
For Smithtown West, standout performances included Liam Byrnes and John Savino the Merrimack commit, each scoring 2 goals. Despite their efforts, Smithtown West couldn’t match the offensive power of Ward Melville.
Ward Melville’s victory started at the face-off X with a huge game for Madden Murphy the Terrier commit who showed why he’s among the top face-off specialists on the island. The Patriots impressive play was also marked by Stephen Rosano the Scared Heart commit, who scored 3 goals. Harvard bound junior Callan McLaughlin added 2 goals, and Zach Brittman who’s heading to Iona contributed 2 goals and 2 assists, playing a pivotal role in their team’s win. They even saw a pole goal which came from Ben Ehlers to beat the first half buzzer. Goalkeepers Davon DiFede and Ethan Shulder made key saves, with DiFede recording a 57% save percentage.
