A Shootout Between Connetquot and Smithtown East ends in 10-10 Tie

On Sunday, December 10th, the Stony Brook University Indoor Complex witnessed a high scoring affair between Connetquot and Smithtown East to get the morning started at 7:00am.

The first half set the tone for an evenly matched game, with just a 1 goal advantage for Smithtown East, leading 4-3 at halftime.

Continuing the momentum, both teams were trading goals in the second half as neither team was able to take control and seize momentum. The largest lead in the second half was a 2 goal advantage for Smithtown East at 7-5, but Connetquot rattled off three straight goals to grab an 8-7 lead. In the closing seconds it was a 10-9 lead for Smithtown East, but Connetquot’s freshman Natalie Insinga came up clutch with the game tying goal assisted by Sydney Elizalde with 5 seconds remaining to avoid a loss and end this one in a 10-10 tie.

Elizalde the Cortland commit stood out with her impressive contribution of 5 goals and 2 assists. Jamie Elliot the Binghamton commit also delivered with 3 goals and 1 assist. For Smithtown East notable performances came from their attackers Jayden Piraino the Virginia commit, who scored 4 goals and contributed an assist, and Jenna Soto the Northwestern Commit who tallied a hat-trick and 2 assists. In the net for Smithtown East was Ryan Dart who came away with 8 saves.

In week 3 of pool play Connetquot will face Bayport Blue Point on Sunday December 17th at 8:30am, while Smithtown East’s next opponent will be that same day against GC Tradition at 11:30am.
