Garden City’s Convincing Second Half Fuels Them to 15-8 Victory Over Mt. Sinai

It was Nassau vs Suffolk in this matchup on Sunday, December 10th, at the Stony Brook University Indoor Complex, as Garden City and Mount Sinai clashed in week 2 of the HSWL.

This one was hanging in the balance in the first 20 minutes of play as the scoring initially got started by an 8 meter sniper from the 2026 lefty attacker Sophia Masone of Mt. Sinai just over five minutes into the game. In a 2-2 game with just over six minutes remaining before halftime, the Trojans outscored the Mustangs 3-1 to end the half, taking a 5-3 into halftime.

In the second half, Mt. Sinai was within a goal at 6-5 before Garden City went on a flurry to extended their lead, spearheaded by the junior Northwestern commit Kyle Finnell. Garden City went on to outscore Mt. Sinai 10-5 in the second half to secure the win.

Finnell stood out with a remarkable performance, scoring five goals and assisting one. Tori Ottomanelli the Harvard commit also made a significant impact with three goals. Garden City’s Yale bound goalie, Niamh Pfaff, made an impressive ten saves, playing a crucial role in her team’s defense, along with uncommitted 2025 defender Brynn Reilly with stout defense.

For Mount Sinai, Sophia Masone led the team with a three goal game, and UMass bound Kyla Orlando and Quinnipiac commit Peyton Choma also added two goals each.

In week 3 Mount Sinai will have a matchup on Thursday night at 10:15 against YJ Torre/Mitchell where they will look for their first win, while Garden City is back on Sunday December 17th against Smithtown East at 11:30am, looking to improve to 3-0 in pool play.
