Spartans put up 14 Goals to get First Win of HSWL

Another public vs private school clash at Stony Brook University Indoor Complex, where the Spartans faced off against Comsewogue. This game proved to be a game of runs where ultimately the Spartans from Sacred Heart came away with a 14-9 win.

The goals came early and often in the first half and it was a 2-2 game before Sacred Heart got consecutive goals by Virgina Tech commit Colleen Thieke to give them a 4-2 lead. However Comsewogue came back with a run of three straight goals capped off by an eight meter shot by Keira Andresen to give them a 5-4 lead. The Spartans gained the upper hand going on to score eight first half goals to Comsewogue’s six to end the first half.

Continuing their strong offensive flurry, the Spartans added six more goals to their tally in the second half. Comsewogue managed to score three goals, but it wasn’t enough to completely close the gap established by the Spartans in the first half. The match concluded with the Spartans securing a 14-9 victory over Comsewogue.

Notable performances for Sacred Heart included UVA bound Cadence Flaherty with four goals along with four goals from Thieke. Adding a hat-trick to the mix was the Marist bound attacker Sienna Prisco, three assists for USC commit Kaylee Fravert, and two goals for sophomore Mya Farrelly Leading the way in save percentage was the freshman Olivia Manago with a save percentage of 50%.

Sophomore Gianna McNulty put on a show for Comsewogue as she led the way with three goals and three assists along with a three goal game by fellow sophomore Vienna Guzman.

Next up for Comsewogue in week 3 will be a Thursday night matchup against Ward Melville at 9:30, while Scared Heart will face Shoreham Wading River this Sunday afternoon at 1:00.
