Bayport JV Edges Past YJ Friedman 11-8

On Thursday evening in the Girls HSWL, YJ Friedman faced off against Bayport JV at the Stony Brook University Indoor Complex. This one was decided by a final score of 11-8 in favor of the Phantoms against the feisty seventh grade YJ team who put forth another valiant effort against an elder opponent.

After trailing 2-0 in the early stages, Bayport JV went on a 6-1 scoring run the remainder of the first half to lead 6-3 going into halftime. The shift in momentum was in large part due their ability to ride the ball and create turnovers. The second half saw both teams fiercely competing, each adding 5 points to their tally. Ultimately, Bayport JV emerged victorious with a final score of 11, surpassing YJ Friedman’s total of 8.

Key players from YJ Friedman, like Nicole Manolakes, Molly McNamara and Sophia Enea, showed a commendable performance, contributing significantly to their team’s score. On the other hand, Bayport JV’s standout players such as Olivia Brady who once again dazzled with five goals and four ground balls, as well as Ava Adams, and Aila Cahill who each scored twice, playing pivotal roles in their team’s success.

YJ Friedman’s four games in pool play concluded Thursday evening and they will back in January for the start of the playoffs. Bayport will have one final game Sunday morning at 9:15 against Westhampton JV where they will aim to finish a perfect 4-0 in pool play.
