Smithtown West Outshines St. Anthony’s 2024 in LILJ Winter League Match


In a high-energy LILJ Winter League game, Smithtown West displayed an impressive performance against the  St. Anthony’s senior team, concluding with a 12-8 victory. The game, played on December 3 at 3:15 pm at the Stony Brook University Indoor Complex, showcased this talented Smithtown West roster that is sure to be in the mix for another deep postseason run in the spring.

After trailing in the opening minutes 2-0, Smithtown West rallied with four unanswered goals to take the lead, and totaled 6 first half goals to St. Anthony’s 3. They maintained their momentum in the second half, adding 6 more goals to their tally. St. Anthony’s was never out of the game, as they scored 5 second half goals of their own but they were unable to fully close the gap created in the first half.

Among the impactful players for Smithtown West included Kate Theofield the future Rutgers Scarlet Knight, who put together a dominant opening winter league game, leading the scoring with 5 goals and 1 assist, while one of the island’s household names in the Class of 2026 Alyssa Lorefice contributed significantly with 4 goals and 2 assists. Jolie Schiavo, the James Madison commit, also added a hat-trick to the team’s score. In the cage for the Bulls was the 2026 goalie Bella Marciano who recored 8 saves with a save percentage of 50% which was also crucial in securing their win.

For St. Anthony’s who was without a number of key players including Tess Calabria, Riley Zusi, Lexi Zenk,  Amanda Paci, and Maddie Morris, managed to still compete and remain within striking distance. Their players demonstrated a commendable effort, which was shown by USF commit Jenna Binkis’ 3 goal performance and the 2 goals scored by Holly Hardwick who’s heading to Holy Cross, but Smithtown West’s consistent performance and strong offense were the deciding factors in their victory.

Next up for the 1-0 Bulls is a matchup against the 1-0 Wantagh Warriors on Sunday at 5:30. The Friars will look to notch their first win on Sunday when they take on the 0-1 Huntington Blue Devils at 1:00.
