In an impressive outing of a team assembled by free agents, Team Excelsior showed out against Miller Place with a resounding 21-9 victory in the LILJ Winter League game on Sunday, December 3, at 7:00 pm.

The first half saw Team Excelsior taking a commanding lead with 9 goals, while Miller Place managed to score 5. Team Excelsior’s momentum did not wane in the second half, as they added 12 more goals to their score. Miller Place, despite their efforts, could only muster an additional 4 goals in the second half.

For Team Excelsior, key contributors to their victory included Emily Clemens of Kings Park who’s committed to Pitt, who led the scoring with 5 goals. The Manhasset freshman Danielle Perfetto added 4 goals, while Olivia Mulada the Cold Spring Harbor freshman, and Maryland commit Kayla Gilmore of William Floyd, each contributed 3 goals and 1 assist. Miller Place’s performance was highlighted by contributions from Mirabella Altebrando, the 2025 uncommitted attacker who scored 1 goal and assisted 3, and Mercer commit Casey Gilbert and Isabella Luisa who’s heading to Sacred Heart, each scoring 2 goals. Despite these individual efforts, Miller Place faced challenges in containing Team Excelsior’s high octane offense whose 21 goals were the most in any game played in week 1.

The game showcased Team Excelsior’s ability to score in bunches in what was a track meet with the high number of transition goals, allowing them to maintain a significant lead throughout the game. Miller Place demonstrated resilience and skill but was ultimately outperformed by Team Excelsior’s consistent and commanding performance.

These two teams will be back in action in week 2 with Team Excelsior taking the field at 7:00pm against 1-0 Long Beach, and Miller Place taking on 0-1 Commack at 6:15pm.
