Wantagh in Complete Control in Win Over Huntington in LILJ Winter League Clash

In a Nassau vs Suffolk matchup, the experienced team from Wantagh emerged victorious against the youthful squad from Huntington with a decisive 15-5 win in the LILJ Winter League game. The match, held on Sunday, December 3, at 5:30 pm at the Stony Brook University Indoor Complex, showcased the wide array of talent on this Warriors team as one of the top teams in Nassau County.

Wantagh set a dominant pace right from the beginning, leading the first half with an impressive 9-3 score. Their momentum continued in the second half, where they added 6 more goals to their total. Huntington, despite their efforts, managed to score only 2 more goals in the second half as this team which has quite a number of 2027s and 2028s looks to continue to improve each week.

Standout performances from Wantagh included the senior UMass commit Sienna Diglio, who led the team’s scoring with 4 goals. Isabella Sandoval the Binghamton bound junior also made a significant impact with 5 goals, showcasing her ability to fill up the scoring column. Juliana Cerasi who’s committed to James Madison contributed 3 goals, 3 assists and was perfect on the draw circle, demonstrating excellent playmaking skills.

Huntington saw contributions from Hofstra commit Kayleigh Bender, Bridget Callery, and Jenna Italiano, each scoring a goal and trying to keep the team in contention. However, the offense of the Warriors proved to be too much to handle in this one for this young Blue Devils team.

The goalkeeping for Wantagh was split between the senior Amanda Coppola and the sophomore Madeline Gonzalez of Wantagh. Huntington’s pair of young gun goalies with freshman Andie DiGioia and eighth grader Juliet Johnson made efforts to fend off Wantagh’s aggressive offense.

This matchup demonstrated Wantagh’s continuity and ability to control the possession battle, enabling them to maintain a lead throughout the game and secure a convincing victory. Huntington showed resilience and skill, but Wantagh’s experience was the key factor in their win.

Coming up in week 2 for Wantagh is battle against 1-0 Smithtown West at 5:30, while Huntington strives for a bounce back game against the seniors from St. Anthony’s at 1:00.
