Long Beach Defeats Team Excelsior 10-4 to Move to 2-0

Wrapping up the second week of the Girls HSWL Long Beach picked up a 10-4 win over Team Excelsior to see their record improve to 2-0. Using a very strong defensive first half Long Beach was able to shut out Team Excelsior while also scoring five goals to take a 5-0 lead into halftime after the first 20 minutes of play.

The offense for Long Beach came from a handful players, between JMU commit Ava Main, Denver commit Delaney Chernoff, as well as Lynn commit Ella Timperio. In the net for Long Beach was the Binghamton commit Emily Backlin keeping Team Excelsior off the board.

In the second half Long Beach added another five goals to their total, one of which came from their 2027 defender Anala Teeter who had a chance to demonstrate her offensive abilities as she scored on an eight meter shot.

Team Excelsior managed to break through in the second half with four goals, but just couldn’t produce enough offensive possessions consistently to keep pace with Long Beach. The four goals for Excelsior were scored by Maryland commit Kayla Gilmore, Bryant commit Payton Noack, Olivia Kaelin and Grace Hoffman.

Next up for Long Beach they will be taking on Miller Place this Sunday at 10:45am, while Team Excelsior has an early morning matchup on Sunday against Commack at 7:45.
