Slow Start Doesn’t Stop SA 2027s From Earning 10-4 Win Over YJ Duswalt

On Thursday evening at the Stony Brook University Indoor Complex, SA 2027 faced off against YJ Duswalt in what was the final night of pool play for each team. It was a slow start for the 2027s of St. Anthony’s but they were ultimately able to come away with a 10-4 victory..

SA 2027 took an early lead in the first half, scoring three goals to YJ Duswalt’s one. The momentum continued in their favor as they added seven more goals in the second half. YJ Duswalt, despite the effort, could only manage three additional goals, bringing the final score to 10-4 in favor of SA 2027.

Notable performances came from several players. Melania Moreo and Elena Ciaccio of SA 2027 each scored two goals, contributing significantly to their team’s victory. Dani Torre also stood out with her all-around play, scoring two goals, assisting on one, and clearing the ball at a high success rate. Adding one goal each for the Friars included Beau Davi, Teagan Baker, Liliana May and Sophia Russo.

On the opposing side, Cassidy Ferrara scored two goals for YJ Duswalt, showcasing her skills.

The goalies on each side also stepped up, with Amelia Grausso of YJ Duswalt making nine saves at a 47% success rate, while Grace Belmonte of SA 2027 maintained a 50% save rate.

Both teams have concluded their pool games and will be back in January for the start of the HSWL Playoffs.
