Long Beach Secures First Round Bye With Victory Over Miller Place

On the final Sunday of pool play, Long Beach and Miller Place faced off at the Stony Brook University Indoor Complex. Miller Place started strong, leading 5-4 at halftime, scoring their fifth goal in dramatic fashion to beat the buzzer by Quinn Cantone. However, Long Beach turned the tide in the second half with a commanding performance, scoring nine goals to Miller Place’s three, culminating in a 13-8 victory for Long Beach.

Key players for Long Beach included Ava Main the James Madison commit, who demonstrated exceptional play by scoring four goals, and freshman Anala Teemer, contributing three goals. Delaney Chernoff the Denver bound junior and Marianna Chimienti each added two goals, playing vital roles in their team’s second half turn around. Chernoff also provided a strong presence on the draw circle, winning five of six, while Main and Teemer combined for seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Miller Place saw impressive performances from Mirabella Altebrando, who tallied four points with two goals and two assists, and Olivia Coffey the Stony Brook commit, adding two goals. Adding one goal each for Miller Place included Merrimack commit Sophia Ingenito, Mercer commit Casey Gilbert, Bella Luisa the Sacred Heart commit, and sophomore Quinn Cantone.

This match was pivotal for Long Beach, enhancing their record to 3-0 to finish first in their pool, while Miller Place ended pool play at 0-3​​. To open the playoffs Long Beach will have a bye and await the winner of Garden City vs Smithtown West, while Miller Place will face off against ESM January 7th at 11:30am.
