Smithtown East Defeats GC Tradition 13-11 in a Thrilling Encounter

It was a high scoring affair at the Stony Brook University Indoor Complex where Smithtown East edged out GC Tradition in a closely contested lacrosse match. The game, which took place on December 17th, saw both teams display exceptional skill and determination.

The first half of the game was a nail-biting affair, with Smithtown East just managing to stay ahead with a score of 7-6. The intensity did not wane in the second half, as both teams continued to battle fiercely. GC Tradition, despite a valiant effort, could only add five more goals to their tally, while Smithtown East managed to score six additional goals, bringing the final score to 13-11 in favor of Smithtown East.

This match was a testament to the high level of lacrosse being played by each team. Both teams displayed great athleticism, strategic play. The narrow victory for Smithtown East showcased their resilience and ability to maintain a lead under pressure.

Leading the charge for Smithtown East was the Northwestern bound attacker Jenna Soto who scored a whopping nine goals along with two assists for a game high 11 points. The two Virginia commits in Jayden Piraino and Sophia Conti each combined for six points with three goals scored by Piraino and three assists from Conti. Also adding two assists for Smithtown East was Marist commit Jenna Mehlinger. In the cage for Smithtown East was Ryan Dart who recorded 11 saves in the game with a 55% save percentage.

For Tradition, Kimberly Colucci and Rhylee Kirchner each scored twice, while Cornell commit Ellie Anderson and Villanova commit Kathryn Monaco each scored once and recorded an assist. In the ground ball department, Alex Livingston, Katherine O’Hanlon, and Penelope Baker each tallied two.

Smithtown East wrapped up pool play with a record of 1-1-1 and will face Rocky Point in the playoffs on January 7th and 8:30am. For GC Tradition they conclude pool play with a 1-2 record and will face Manhasset in the playoffs on January 7th at 9:30am.
