Mt. Sinai Rallies Past Huntington for 11-9 Victory

On Sunday December 17th the 2-0 Mustangs faced off against the 1-1 Blue Devils in the final night of pool play in the HSWL. This was a matchup that went down to the wire and showed why the sport of lacrosse is a game of runs. The first half saw Huntington build a two goal lead before the Mustangs struck right before halftime on what was one of five goals from the Michigan commit Lucas Laforge which made it a 6-5 game going into halftime. The second half saw Huntington reclaim the momentum as they scored three of the first four goals to take their biggest lead of the game at 9-6. However the Mustangs once again rallied as they closed the game scoring five unanswered goals to ultimately take the game by a final score of 11-9.

The five goals scored by Laforge along with two points each from Belmont Abbey commit Nicholas Carretta, LIU commit Demetri Boutis, and Adelphi commit Brett Oppenheim helped put the Mustangs over the top. In the net for Mt. Sinai was Michael Romeo who recored seven saves with a save percentage of 43%.

On the other side the Blue Devils got productive games from Timmy McDonald who recorded a hat-trick, one assist as well as five ground balls, as well as Daniel McNulty who also added a hat-trick.

The HSWL will return in January with the start of the playoffs beginning on January 4th where Huntington’s first round matchup will bet at 7:15pm against Smithtown West while the Mustangs have a first round game against Rust and Gold at 8:45pm.
