Sacred Heart Leads From Start to Finish Against Shoreham Wading River

The Sacred Heart Spartans took on the Shoreham Wading River Wildcats this past Sunday on the final day of pool play where they picked up a commanding victory to conclude pool play with a 2-1 record while the Wildcats finish at 1-2. The Spartans set the tone from the beginning as they were able jump out to an 8-1 lead after the first 20 minutes of play. The second half mirrored the first as the Spartans remained in command, putting up another eight goals while only allowing three to take the game by a final score of 16-4.

The Spartans offense saw major contributions from a number of players as five different players recored multiple goals including USC commit Kaylee Fravert, Marist commit Sienna Prisco, Virginia Tech commit Colleen Thieke, Richmond commit Elizabeth Darcy, and Virginia bound Cady Flaherty. Headlining the ground ball department for Sacred Heart was LIU Bound Catherine Batterberry who led all players with five. Standing out for the Spartans defense was the Holy Cross bound senior Rosalie Haffner who created two caused turnovers, picked up two ground balls and was crucial in Sacred Heart’s ability to clear the ball at a high level.

Though the Wildcats were unable to generate much offense, the goaltending of freshman Sophia Giangreco was eye opening as she saw 30 shots on goal and recorded 14 saves for a 46% save percentage. Grayce Kitchen the Louisville commit had a team high four ground balls for the Wildcats.

Going into the playoffs the Spartans open up on the evening of January 3rd against Westhampton at 9:30pm. Shoreham has a first round matchup against Wantagh on January 7th and 7:00am.
