Ten Class of 2027 Goalies to Spotlight

Ellis Joshua · September 19, 2025 · 5 min read

When it comes to the goalie position they are often the backbone of the defensive unit and have the ability to carry teams a long way when they are on a roll.  As we’re now in the third week of September Long Island has seen a number of goalies in the Class of 2027 announce their commitment, but there are still plenty of  players going through the recruiting process as they aim to find the place they’ll be calling home for the next four years at the collegiate level. Let’s highlight ten uncommitted goalies from the island!

Kathryn Arrington (Mt. Sinai/LI Empire Green)

Arrington the lefty from Mt. Sinai is an athletic goaltender who tracks the ball very well and finds herself in the right position to make saves. This past spring as the starting goalie for Mt. Sinai she compiled 89 saves. Her play was on display throughout the summer across the club circuit with Empire Green as well as at Juniors Open and the LILJ Committed University. This year is sure to be a big one for Arrington in the cage for the Mustangs.

Peyton D’Angelo (Bayport Blue Point/Legacy Blue)

The Bayport native D’Angelo excels at being able to deny shots coming in from down low with her athleticism. When she has the rock she is composed and makes smart decisions with her outlet passes making her very efficient in the clearing game. Now as a junior for the reigning state champion Phantoms D’Angelo has the opportunity for an enhanced role in the cage where she has a chance to be the anchor for a defense that is one of the best on the island.

Karly Giambone (Longwood/FLG Carolina)

The Longwood Lion Giambone is very versatile with her ability to save both high and low shots as well as shots on the 8 meter arc. One of her best attributes is being able to throw deep and accurate passes when clearing the ball which allows her to ignite transition. As a sophomore for Longwood Giambone saw plenty of time in the cage and was over 50% in saves on the season. Look for that playing time to potentially increase in her junior season for the lions.

Sophia Giangreco (Shoreham Wading River/Legacy Blue)

Giangreco of Shoreham Wading River knows how to block shots and does so in bunches which was evident this summer for Legacy Blue. As a steady presence in the cage, she is now entering her third year as the starter for the Wildcats where she has totaled at least 95 saves in each of her first two seasons. Entering her junior year Giangreco is prime for another stout season in the cage.

Gabriella Hudak (Friends Academy/Liberty Black)

Hudak is very good at being able to track to the ball which means more times than not she’s coming up with the save. In her sophomore year she was a brick wall for Friends Academy where she recorded 150 saves on the season which was good enough for top 10 in Nassau County in total saves. On the club circuit she was doing more of the same for Liberty Black throughout the summer. Now as a junior with another year of seasoning look for Hudak to replicate her success through the 2025-26 year.

Ava Kalmar (Harborfields/YJ Gaghan)

Kalmar out of Harborfields is athletic between the pipes which allows her to often times make difficult saves look like a can of corn. In addition to her athleticism she is also a great communicator. She’s next in line to be the starter for Harborfields and gave a preview of what’s to come last winter in the LILJ HSWL where she was nearly 50% in saves. After a big summer for Kalmar at recruiting showcases including Juniors Open and on the club scene with Yellow Jackets Gaghan, look for her to have a coming out party junior year as the starting goalie for Harborfields.

Fiona Lynch (Long Beach/LI Empire Green)

Lynch who hails from Long Beach has very quick hands and plays with a level on confidence in her game that allows her to be successful. Not only will she make plays in the cage, but she is also not afraid to come out of the crease and be active. This season Lynch is likely next up to be the starting goaltender for Long Beach where she has the chance to be the defensive backbone for the Marines who will once again be in contention to be among the final four in the county.

Maggie Lynch (St. Anthony’s/FLG Navy)

Lynch the St. Anthony’s product is a very good stopper of the rock especially in tight. She has quick reflexes and is great in the clearing game. She is very calm and composed in the cage as a defensive anchor and this summer demonstrated consistency on the club circuit with FLG at tournaments including Apex The Grind and Maryland Cup and also showcased her abilities on a national scale at Juniors Open.

Sarah Ulzheimer (Seaford/Jesters Blue)

The Seaford Viking Ulzheimer is quick to react and was racking up saves left and right throughout 2025, finishing in the top 15 across Nassau County with 134 and it continued into the summer playing for Jesters Blue. Entering her junior year Ulzheimer has plenty of experience under her belt and has the chance for another season to be among the leaders in saves in Nassau County.

Demetra Venetoklis (Manhasset/FLG Navy)

Manhasset’s Venetokolis is a sound stopper with very good positioning. When it comes to the rebounds she excels at being able to control them resulting in her being able to make saves back-to-back. Ventekolis is very efficient in the clearing game, delivering good outlet passes on clears off of saves. Throughout the summer playing for FLG she demonstrated strong play in the cage across various tournaments including Summer Genesis and Maryland Cup.
